Plumbing Estimator

Position Summary: Responsible for estimating and takeoffs of plumbing and HVAC including sheet metal.. The individual should have a good understanding of all aspects of estimating for mechanical contracting and be able to communicate effectively with contractors, designers, owners, and job-site personnel, while representing TP Mechanical Contractors in a professional manner. Must be able to understand the design intent and fill in missing information to complete an estimate.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Reading and understanding project specifications and drawings
- Provide projects material takeoffs and pricing
- Attend project site surveys and walks
- Proficient in inputting missing information in the bid documents. Completing the design with intent.
- Must stay current with all estimating software and attend training courses as needed and/or required.
- Provides the VP of Estimating quantitative material take-offs and inputs information into spreadsheets.
- Ensures smooth and timely estimates.
- Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to secure scopes and pricing including but not limited to calling and/or meeting with them to discuss their scope of work.
- Ability to clearly write scope letters.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience/Qualifications Required:
- 8 years’ experience in commercial plumbing, heating, and or fire protection estimating, or completion of approved apprenticeship program and 5 years’ experience as a Journeyman.
- 5-8 years prior estimating experience.
- Job Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
- Knowledge of general plumbing and piping installation, sheet metal, HVAC, or fire protection (as assigned).
- Good math ability.
- Good computer skills (knowledgeable with Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook).
- Detail oriented.
- Good time management.
- Understanding confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to learn new systems and technologies.
- Trimble Viewpoint and/or QuickPen, Autodesk Est-MEP, and QuoteSoft experience .
- Bluebeam experience .
- Ability to communicate on a professional level in front of peers, co-workers, and customers.
- Education:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, required.
- Journeyman Plumber license or equivalent experience.
- Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent experience.
- Journeyman Fire Protection license or equivalent experience.
- Physical Requirements:
- Eyesight correctable to 20/50
- Capable of job site tours, climbing ladders and on/off equipment, etc.
- Special Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- OSHA 10 hours.
- Required to work onsite within office location.
