Power System Dynamics Engineer/Senior Engineer

The opportunityYou'll play a key role in providing power system modelling and dynamic analysis to plan the future direction of the Grid. You'll analyse the power system to ensure it remains stable while we further electrify the NZ economy.Work over the next 18 months will be fascinating and includes updating and validating Power System models, contributing to Grid upgrade options simulation and analysis, and performing HVDC control system tuning on our Real Time Simulator.You'll be involved in the most technically demanding engineering modelling and analysis challenges - which influence what Transpower specifies, procures, installs, and commissions on the electricity grid (projects in size up to $500m). You can be involved in all stages of this process, gaining a wide perspective and experience.What will you bring?To join our new Power System Dynamics team in Wellington, at this super exciting time:At Engineer level - you'll need a tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, an understanding of the New Zealand electricity sector, and at least 2 years of relevant industry experience which demonstrates your ability to communicate clearly, problem solve, collaborate, and deliver. You'll be a self-starter, adept at prioritising and managing your own workload, and comfortable explaining complicated technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.Previous work or research will have honed your skills and understanding in:Power system planning, modelling, and analysisThe use of simulation packages such as DIgSILENT, PSS/E or PSCADWhile not essential, a master's or PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems will be advantageous.At "Senior" Engineer level in addition to the above you'll have CPEng or an international equivalent and:7+ years' experience in EMT modelling of power systemsExperience with FACTS/HVDC control systems engineeringPython scriptingDemonstrated ability to coach and develop engineers' technical and soft skillsMembership of professional affiliations and industry working groups such as: CIGRE, IEEE, IET, or EEA is desirable.
