About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will oversee and manage all aspects of grid reporting, energy capacity reviews, grid market intelligence, and Distribution Network Operator (DNO) management working alongside Greenfield’s Grid Manager and wider in-house project development team. This role is critical to ensuring our projects align with Grid requirements, meet technical and regulatory standards, and maximize operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Grid Connection & Compliance:

Conduct feasibility studies for and demand side connections for connecting technologies including, solar, battery storage, and data centres to the UK electricity network.

Prepare and manage applications for grid connection with DNOs and Grid, ensuring compliance with G99, G100, and other relevant regulations projects across 11kV, 33kV, 66kV, 132kV, 275kV and 400kV networks.

Assess and interpret connection offers, conditions, and constraints to advise internal teams or clients.

Energy Capacity Reviews:

Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments to determine energy capacity and grid connection requirements for new and existing projects.

Develop network reinforcement strategies and propose solutions for congestion, voltage, and capacity constraints.

Grid Market Intelligence:

Keep up to date with emerging grid codes, policies, and technical standards (such as the Distribution Code, Grid Code, and industry guidelines).

Proactively recommend improvements to ensure compliance and enhance operational efficiencies across projects.

DNO Management:

Maintain strong relationships with Distribution Network Operators, manage grid connection agreements, and oversee the application and approval processes.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

Work closely with internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project development and implementation.

Innovation and Efficiency:

Identify and implement improvements in grid integration, energy optimization, and system reliability.

Required Technical Skills

Strong understanding of electricity transmission and distribution networks in the UK, including working knowledge of DNO and Grid processes.

Commercial awareness of how design decisions and equipment specifications can affect the profitability of a project.

Expertise in power system analysis tools (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP).

Familiarity with G59/G99, G100, and relevant UK regulatory frameworks.

Experience in substation design, protection & control, and system automation is highly desirable.

Ability to interpret network studies, assess operational constraints, and propose viable engineering solutions.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience working within the renewable energy sector.

Proven expertise in UK grid systems, including Grid and DNO interactions.

Experience in managing grid connection agreements and compliance processes.

Certifications

(Desirable):

Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards professional registration.
