Turner Lovell are currently recruiting for a industry leader in the development of electricity transmission infrastructure. They are rapidly growing to serve a expanding pipeline of innovative projects. Our client is a world leader in renewable energy solutions. They are seeking experienced Power System Design Engineers to join their growing HVDC team delivering ground-breaking projects globally.
As a (Senior) Power System Design Engineer, you will perform vital roles in the design and specification of HVDC converter stations and transmission infrastructure. If you have HV or HVDC system design expertise you will provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers in a senior role. If you have transferable skills, you'll have access to fantastic training and development opportunities in HV system design.
This is a multifaceted position where you will have customer-facing responsibilities, develop new processes/tools like design guides, and drive innovation by implementing emerging technologies and analysis methods.
Key responsibilities:
- Work closely with transmission owners, offshore wind developers to design transmission schemes that connect renewable energy to the grid.
- Produce single line diagrams and scheme designs for HV and HVDC systems
- Drafting specifications for HV equipment-transformers, switchgear, reactors, measuring devices
- Perform insulation coordination and basic insulation studies
- Witness factory testing and commissioning of HV equipment
- Conduct technical studies that develop HVDC solutions.
- Develop design guides, tools for standardised solutions.
- Author publications and participate in CIGRE, IEC, IEEE groups
Ideal background:
- Power systems engineering degree (MSc+)
- Interest or experience with offshore or onshore or HVDC electricity transmission.
- At least 2 years of experience in system design roles performing main scheme design, single line diagrams, insulation coordination studies or specifying substation equipment.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Strong skills in Excel, Python
- Good technical communication skills to report, present, mentor and collaborate.
- Self-motivating attitude with a track record of being proactive and results driven
- Strong team player.
