Power Systems Engineer (Offshore Wind)

Benson Mack Search is currently working with a leading offshore wind developer to appoint a Power Systems Engineer to support their projects in Scotland.


You will be joining a dynamic and highly motivated consortium of passionate energy professionals who have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in executing floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects


Role:

  • Manage power system studies for the electrical system, including the inter-array system, export cable and onshore infrastructure.
  • Support design development as well as reviewing and approving the electrical design.
  • Manage specification writing and consultancy work scopes with associated delivery review for power system study requirements for the offshore windfarm, from wind turbine interface to grid connection point.
  • Support the development of engineering tender requirements for electrical equipment.
  • Work with electrical cable, plant and wind farm engineers as well as electrical protection and control system engineers during design stages.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary engineering design team and be able to explain complex power system models and results to the team to progress the design.
  • Support the Electrical Engineering Manager with monthly design reviews, power systems-related decision making, engineering risk management, budgeting and programme.
  • Support the Grid Manager in regular engagements with NESO/SSEN to address interaction issues, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Support the Grid/Regulation managers in assessing and responding to regulatory and policy changes.
  • Support project technical engineering meetings with other engineering stakeholders both internally and externally.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Masters in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
  • Experience in power systems modelling of wind turbine generator and transmission systems.
  • Experience in use of with software tools for static and dynamic studies for systems connecting to the GB grid.
  • An understanding of the GB grid code and modelling standards for connection of offshore generators to the GB grid is desirable though not essential.
  • Understanding of GB grid regulatory frameworks and policy change mechanisms.
  • Experience of working with OEMs in relation to modelling requirements for grid code compliance.
  • Understanding of relevant standards applicable to primary electrical plant for modelling purposes.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of using modelling tools such as DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSSE, and PSCAD.
  • Experience of application of CDM to projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Detail-oriented and systematic approach to design.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Power Point and Word.
