Your ResponsibilitiesUndertake the role of Design Manager to co-ordinate packages of work within budget and to programme to meet the Client’s requirementsPrincipal Designer under CDM15Ensure our Quality Assurance process is undertaken for technical review of deliverablesUnderstand project scope and identify contractual changeUnderstand the customer’s basic and performance needsLead multi-disciplinary project teams to undertake feasibility assessments, optioneering, outline and detailed design, liaising with internal teams such as ecology, geotechnical engineering for input into designProvide technical advice to engineers and graduate engineersBalance the priorities of multiple projectsManage and coordinate resources across a multi-disciplinary project teamAssess the technical risk of projectsProvide clear and concise deliverables appropriate for the intended audienceSign off deliverables as Technical Authority where competent to do so (for small projects for example overseeing a more junior Design/ Engineering Manager)Identify and cooperate with project stakeholders (external and internal) Keep up to date with national and industry guidanceEssential RequirementsYou should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:Professional Qualification (CEng or C.WEM)Degree in Civil Engineering, Water & Environmental Management or a related subjectGood grades at A-Levels in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) subjects and/or GeographyAbility to work in a multi-disciplinary team of internal professionals, and third-party asset owners, stakeholders, technical officers and contractorsMotivated to work on flood and coastal risk management and water projects - experience in at least one of these fields is requiredExperience of working on projects at appraisal, outline design, detailed design and constructions stagesManage budget and programme control for engineering deliverablesAbility to work under time pressure and balance multiple prioritiesAbility to manage and co-ordinate resources and processesAbility to design, plan and organise tasksCollaborative behaviours that help to build strong effective teamsAbility to liaise with internal and external clients to develop relationships across the businessAbility to effectively present technical solutions to a wide range of audiences in a variety of meansProactive and methodical approach to problem solving as an individual and as part of a team with a desire to find a solutionExcellent attention to detailA high level of computer literacyDesirable RequirementsExperience of flood and coastal risk management and water projectsExperience of producing flood risk assessmentsExperience of undertaking structural inspections for bridges, floodwalls and gauging weirsManaging multi-disciplinary projectsKnowledge of AutoCad and GISBe driven to support and mentor others to improve their technical skillsBe driven to advance your careerWhy join usIf you’re curious why or how, you’ll fit in with our way of working, if you have other thoughts, we’d love to hear them.
