Principal Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:


  • Project Involvement: You'll be part of a team that works on developing and delivering engineering solutions for electricity projects involving high voltage (33 kV and above).
  • Design Work: You'll be responsible for designing steel structures for overhead power lines and the systems used in these designs.
  • Project Management: You'll manage projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. This includes handling finances and attending site meetings when needed.
  • Team Leadership: You'll lead the Project Design Team and provide design support during certain stages of project development (referred to as NDP4.2 and 4).



Skills and Experience Needed:



  • Software Proficiency: You should be skilled in industry-specific software like PLS CADD, PLS Tower, SAPS, or similar tools.
  • Standards Knowledge: You need to be familiar with and industry standards, such as BS EN 50341 and the ENATS suite.
  • Experience:

    • Typically, you should have at least 8-10 years of experience in the industry after graduating.
    • Ideally, 3-5 years of experience working on Grid overhead line (OHL) projects, or 5-10 years of general experience in the UK OHL industry.




  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, with a strong background in Maths (A-level or equivalent).
  • Professional Aspirations: You should be aiming for or working towards membership in a professional engineering body (like MICE, MIStructE, MIET).

  • Problem-Solving: You should be intuitive, logical, and pragmatic in your approach to solving problems.
