Within the Hoare Lea corporate structure, the Digital Consultancy (DC) is a constantly growing specialist group, providing an engineering and design talent pool, surfacing a blend of skills, majoring in the core disciplines of Digital Strategy; Controls and Systems Integration; Audio Visual (AV) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
We blend these four skill areas to provide the complete digital approach essential to a cutting-edge intelligent building solution.
Controls and Systems Integration Team
Our team looks to design and specify the controls and systems integration for projects in various sectors. Examples include Landlord / Base Build Building Systems, predominantly Building Management Systems (BMS), metering and integration with other systems (e.g. security, lighting, etc.) that will operate over the ICT-specified Converged Building Network.
This requires the Controls and Systems Integration Team collaborating with the client to translate visions and objectives into tangible design concepts and firm definitions. The team is involved in a wide range of projects from initial advisory and client engagement to the production of design documentation including drawings and specifications. The role will also provide governance for our clients staying involved through construction, testing and commissioning to ensure Contractor deliverables and installations are aligned with the design intent and project requirements.
Our team brings a mix of consulting skills and practical delivery experience, helping clients deliver technology across the lifecycle of projects.
The position can be located in any city where we have an office (ideally London, Reading, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge or Oxford).

What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have skills in the following areas:
Digital Solutions – Specific Skills:
- Client facing and clear communication skills.
- Ability to present technical concepts and respond to clarification questions during client workshops.
- Ability to coordinate and adapt technical solutions through discussions with clients and designers/specialists from different disciplines. Commercial awareness of capital expenditure and operational expenditure of the technical solutions and able to provide high level advice to client teams for decision making and to advise project cost consultants.
- A solid building services (electrical and mechanical) engineering background, and specifically control and monitoring principles within the building environment.
- A solid understanding of design principles of typical building technology systems such as HVAC controls, building management system, lighting controls, energy metering networks, lift head end platforms, access controls and security technologies.
- A solid understanding of proprietary systems and specialist system protocols associated with the above.
- Knowledge of IoT smart building technologies and protocols, such as MQTT and LoraWAN.
- Ability to create integrated data solutions, sketch out physical and data topologies, and understand their relationships.
Standard Consulting Skills:
- Solid report writing skills, and ability to convey new concepts in visual forms such as flow charts and topologies.
- Creativity to put together striking presentations for client workshops. Including written and diagrammatic content.
- Understand the necessity of story telling to present technical solutions and content.
- Influence, collaborate, and guide junior team members.
- Ability to self-manage, self-deliver and utilise lower ranked resource to achieve project deadlines. Strong skills to collaborate within the multi-discipline team, companywide and project teams.
- Good understanding of RIBA stages and how they might transfer to software and creative content such as Controls scope.
- Hold ability to maintain clear focus on client awarded scope and deliverables, and produce reports, design notes, schedules, schematics, layouts and specifications as required to refine design solutions from RIBA Stages 1/2 to 6/7.
