Principal Environmental Engineer

The Opportunity: Our WSP Contaminated Sites team in Edmonton is growing, and as a result we're adding a Senior Environmental Engineer to our group serving a variety of industrial and government clients in Western Canada as well as the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Develop and finalize design drawings and specifications for landfill gas systems. Manage and oversee the installation process of landfill gas systems, ensuring adherence to design plans. Lead the design and preparation of specifications for new or expanding landfill projects, including landfill caps and containment systems for ponds and lagoons. Supervise construction activities to ensure projects meet design and regulatory requirements. Implement and monitor Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs for liner systems. Ensure all project materials and installations comply with industry standards. Supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team of professionals, providing technical guidance and support. Ensure all projects comply with environmental regulations and standards. Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation for regulatory compliance and client communication. Conduct environmental impact assessments and land evaluations. Develop and implement strategies for waste management and pollution control. Collaborate with clients to create innovative and sustainable landfill gas management solutions. Stay informed about the latest industry standards, technologies, and best practices. Oversee, or assist in the preparation of technical proposals including preparing scopes of works and estimates of costs for professional services. What you can bring to WSP: A bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental/Civil/Geological Engineering, or related Engineering disciplines. Minimum of 15 years of experience in the following: Landfill gas systems including preparation of design drawings and specifications Oversight of installation of landfill gas systems Knowledge of beneficial use of collected landfill gas Design and preparation or supervision of design drawings, specifications for new or expanding landfills, landfill caps, and natural or synthetic containment systems for ponds and lagoons; Construction oversight of above projects Field experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs for natural and synthetic liner systems; Strong written and oral skills in English Involvement in and supervision of teams of professionals in this field Registration in or ability to register with APEGA or other provincial jurisdictions A minimum of three references will be requested.
