Principal Environmental Officer, Environment and Science

Minerals and North Queensland Compliance delivers environmental assessment and compliance services from offices in Cairns and Townsville and covers an area from the Burdekin Shire in the south, west to Boulia and the Northern Territory border, and north to Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands. North Queensland includes a range of industry and commerce, including agriculture, livestock production, industrial development and includes the North West Mineral province where most of the state's large base metal mining operations are located.As a Principal Environmental Officer you will provide high level technical support to the team to aid Compliance activities and provide support and guidance for less experienced team members ensuring specific outcomes are delivered. You will be required to liaise and collaborate with business groups across the business to support service delivery.You will be required to posses or be driven to acquire extensive legislative knowledge in environmental regulatory strategy and will have proven ability to apply knowledge of legislation and policy to assist in the business delivery of the unit.This is an excellent opportunity to use your high level technical skills to obtain positive outcomes in Environmental Management, apply your leadership and project management skills while expanding your technical knowledge in the application of principles and practices of environmental management.It is essential that you possess a university degree (undergraduate and/or postgraduate) from a recognised tertiary institution in environmental management; chemical, physical, geological, hydrological, environmental, applied and biological sciences, environmental engineering. Other closely related disciplines may be considered.You are also required to hold an unrestricted driver's license recognised in the State of Queensland and be prepared to obtain a manual license if you do not already have one.Your application will remain current for up to 12 months and you may be contacted regarding other identical or similar vacancies at various locations and for either fulltime or part-time employment.Applications will remain current for 12 months.
