Principal Process Safety Engineer

Overview The variety of projects you will cover will be a diverse range of hazards across various sectors of industry, from flavors and powders used in ice-cream manufacture through to fire and explosion hazards associated with pyrophoric manufacture. It will involve being part of a large multi-disciplinary PM Group team on certain projects to a more standalone level of service for process safety and consultancy services for clients. Responsibilities Collaborate closely with the broader Group in the support of internal projects and a variety of external process safety consultancy works. Office (hybrid) based with site based surveys and safety studies where required Required to work across a variety of diverse industry sectors including food & pharma, specialty chemicals, advanced manufacturing, energy and waste recycling Act as focal point for a variety of assignments to support the execution of process hazard analysis exercises, which underpin the delivery of a safe design for the end user. You will be involved in; selection, preparation, delivery and reporting of a range of process hazard analysis tools including What If Study, HAZOP, and LOPA. Proven knowledge around a variety of process safety subject matter areas e.g. ATEX/DSEAR risk assessment, hazardous area classification, safe handling of combustible dusts, control of electrostatic hazards. Involvement and responsibility in bespoke safety consultancy works as your process safety skill set is developed - ultimately leading to the provision of stand-alone consultancy services when Subject Matter Expert (SME) status is required. Qualifications Hold a Bachelor degree in related engineering subject (e.g. Chemical Engineering) Relevant professional experience in similar function and environment, related to process safety engineering consultancy services. Chartered Engineer with relevant institute (e.g. IChemE) Strong level of knowledge and understanding of DSEAR & ATEX, PUWER and/or machine safety directive. Expertise of hazard study methodologies (including HAZOP) Good understanding of EHS legislation, codes of practices and standards Experience with pressure relief device sizing and vent header sizing to API520/521 guidelines Understanding and experience of QRA techniques and analysis would be highly desirable e.g. consequence modelling, OBRA, etc. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, trouble-shooting, root cause analysis and risk assessments with a strong attention to detail. Self-motivated, organised, reliable along with a professional approach and demeanour. A strong ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection and business. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including extensive report-writing experience. Display an enthusiastic approach towards others with a ‘teamwork’ focus.
