Process Engineer

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionUnder the direction of the PDM the Process Engineer will be execute the development of the process heat and material balance, the Process Flow Diagrams defining the process to be constructed, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) for the detailed process definition, equipment lists and specifications, and design of safety systems for the process. The Process Engineer will work with the project team and engineering contractors to ensure that the process design and control systems design goals for the plant are met from inception to start up.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIESParticipate and influence process design and engineering:Ø Influence philosophy development, design, documentation and implementation.Ø Equipment design and specifications.Ø Participate in reviews of basic and detailed engineering documents to guarantee performance of the plant.Ø Ensure safety is designed into the asset in line with minimum requirements as summarized in the Process Safety Handbook.Ø Support hazard analysis of project design including assessing and implementing hazard analysis recommendations.Front-end loading organization phase:Ø Consult with contractors to identify risks, handle questions and clarify misunderstandings.Ø Support the execution of Process Design Deliverables aligned with project execution philosophy.Ø Ensure appropriate process design tools are available.SELECT and DEFINE Stage Engineering:Ø Define capital efficient process within safety, reliability, operating cost, and product quality and product distribution performance requirements.Ø Support the design of integral control systems and process engineering including but not limited to: process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment lists and specifications.Ø Support the design of integral process safety systems including but not limited to safety interlocks, safety devices, including specification and schematics.Ø Participate in process safety evaluations as per industry standard, including SIL analysis and HAZOP process.Ø Assist other engineering discipline design efforts such as plot plan design, equipment spacing and arrangement, constructability, piping layout and design, and preliminary mechanical, instrumentation and electrical engineering.Ø Participate in the development of final Heat and Material Balance (H&MB).Ø Develop Design Basis Documentation.Ø Participate in the development of Process Flow Diagrams for the process to be constructed, finalized by end of SELECT Stage.Ø Participate in the development of Piping and Instrument Diagrams for the process, finalized by end of DEFINE Stage.Ø Develop equipment list, perform equipment sizing based on the H&MB and develop process specifications for all equipment.Ø Develop safety device list, perform safety device sizing based on most likely failure scenario’s and develop process specifications for all safety devices.Ø Develop utilities and chemicals requirements or perform OSBL design as per above as the case may be.Ø Ensure input from Operations and Maintenance organizations of current LAO operations.Ø Assist the evaluations of all process safety evaluations as per industry standard, including SIL analysis and HAZOP process.Ø Support development of technical process documents required for project sanctioning.Ø Support preparation of cost estimates for the project.Ø Review equipment bids and support equipment selection process.Ø Support implementation of Value Improving Practices (e.g. Design to Capacity, Constructability, Reliability Modelling, etc.).Ø Support other engineering discipline design efforts such as plot plan design, equipment spacing and arrangement, constructability, piping layout and design, and preliminary mechanical, instrumentation and electrical engineering.EXECUTE Stage Most Important Activities:Ø Minimize change to the process design.Ø Support finalizing engineering discipline design with minimal change to process design Support Pre-commissioning and Commissioning / start-up planning.Ø Participate in construction activity with punch list and field review as required.Ø Prepare process documentation for hand-over to Plant Operations.REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONSØ Bachelor’s in chemical engineering, advanced degree a plus.Ø Minimum 2 years process design and chemical operations experience.Ø Understanding of chemical process control and safety system design.Ø Strong computational and data analysis skills.Ø Strong IT skills with process modeling and process simulation software.Ø Strong problem-solving skills.Ø Strong written and oral communication skills.Ø Build networks to enhance effectiveness ad share knowledge.Ø Self-motivated, self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision.
