Job Overview:

A leading Oil & Gas Operator is seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to join their team for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit offshore West Africa. The Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of the process operations on the FPSO, with a focus on preventing accidents, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with industry safety standards and regulations. This role is critical in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the FPSO, safeguarding both personnel and the environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management:
    • Develop, implement, and monitor process safety management systems to ensure the safe operation of the FPSO.
    • Conduct hazard identification (HAZID) and hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) to identify and mitigate process safety risks.
    • Ensure that all safety systems, including emergency shutdown systems and fire and gas detection systems, are functioning correctly and comply with industry standards.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    • Perform risk assessments for new and existing processes, identifying potential hazards and implementing appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
    • Collaborate with the operations team to design and implement process modifications that enhance safety and reduce risk.
    • Lead incident investigations, analyze root causes, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Compliance and Standards:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and company policies related to process safety, including API, OSHA, and ISO standards.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices in process safety.
    • Prepare and submit safety reports to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders as required.
  • Safety Training and Awareness:
    • Provide training and guidance to FPSO personnel on process safety principles, emergency response procedures, and safe work practices.
    • Develop and deliver safety presentations and workshops to promote a strong safety culture onboard the FPSO.
    • Participate in safety drills and emergency response exercises to ensure readiness in the event of an incident.
  • Process Safety Reviews:
    • Conduct regular process safety reviews, audits, and inspections to identify potential safety improvements.
    • Monitor process safety performance indicators (PSPIs) and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety outcomes.
    • Ensure that all process safety documentation, including safety case reports, is maintained and updated.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process safety engineering within the oil and gas industry, preferably with offshore FPSO experience.
    • Strong background in risk assessment, hazard analysis, and process safety management systems.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in process safety analysis tools and software
    • Deep understanding of process safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
    • Experience with emergency shutdown systems, fire and gas detection systems, and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
  • Certifications:
    • Relevant certifications in process safety (e.g., Certified Process Safety Professional, Functional Safety Engineer).
    • Offshore safety training certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET) are required.
