AESC are the world’s leading battery technology company and lithium-ion battery manufacturer. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the North East’s highest profile manufacturing plants as we are expanding our operations at our battery manufacturing plant in Sunderland.

We are looking for a Process Safety, Environment, Heath & Safety Manager to join our team in order to support the current Battery Plant operation and development of a new world class and innovative mass manufacturing Gigafactory. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the most exciting, large scale industrial developments in many years, where new and emerging technologies will be adopted in support of the rapidly growing electric vehicle marketplace

The opportunity

Reporting to the SHEQ Senior Manager, as the Process Safety and Environment, Health & Safety Manager you will be required to work closely with production and other operational disciplines to ensure the battery plant is set up to operate safely and within the requirements of the expectations of an upper tier COMAH site.

You will have responsibility for:

  • Supporting the design, installation, and commissioning new production machinery, including monitoring development and troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring that potential safety issues related to the site operator, the environment, the process, and the product are considered and partake in and lead hazard studies – HAZOPS, SIL / LOPA, HAZIDS as required.
  • Coordinate preparation of major hazard risk assessment.
  • Define the Chemical and Operational (Fire and Explosion Prevention).
  • Bases of Safety and Processes Conduct Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) of new and existing processes.

About you

As an experienced Process Safety, Environment, Health & Safety Manager you will have deep experienced in the development or design of safe systems of work in a top tier COMAH site. With considerable experience and understanding of COMAH standards, with a particular emphasis on environmental and process safety implications you will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the business to raise the profile of the SHEQ. With well developed communication skills, to be able to influence & challenge Engineers effectively, give confidence to the Senior Management Team and regulators, whilst building a positive improvement minded health & safety culture from the bottom up.
