The Role

In order to support our continued growth, we have created a new opportunity within our procurement department for a skilled and motivated professional to lead our material and plant procurement teams. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving our procurement strategy, ensuring that our team delivers on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
As the leader of the operational team, you will be responsible for managing performance and ensuring the efficient delivery of activities. This includes overseeing the timely supply of plant equipment and materials while maintaining effective cost management to meet project budgets. Collaborating closely with the Supply Chain Manager, you will help build and nurture strong supplier relationships, while engaging with the project teams to support the delivery of critical projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the procurement of materials and hiring of plant and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specifications and standards.
- Manage project procurement budgets, ensuring cost control and value for money.
- Monitor and report on procurement performance metrics, including savings achieved, deliveries on time in full, equipment usage and supplier performance.
- Support critical negotiations for goods, services and plant equipment.
- Work with project managers, engineers, and site teams to understand their procurement needs, developing procurement strategies for their requirements.
- Work closely with the Supply Chain Manager to develop a sustainable and resilient supply chain, capable of meeting the needs of the business.
- Assist with tender pricing, providing evaluations of submissions and recommendations.
- Collaborate and coordinate between departments within the business, ensuring seamless communication.
- Facilitate cross transfer of knowledge, lessons learnt and expertise across both internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor the procurement team, setting objectives, performance managing and providing training opportunities for the department.
- Analyse market trends to identify costs savings and mitigate supply chain risk.
- Ensure compliance with internal process and procedure, as well as legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements, actively improving where required.

About you
Essential
- Proven experience within procurement management ideally in the civil engineering or construction sectors, with an understanding of plant, material and services contracts.
- Experience managing a team with a track record of successfully leading and managing procurement professionals.
- Background in a commercially challenging environment, with strong analytical, problem-solving and clear decision making skills.
Desirable
- Experience procuring against Client Frameworks, principally in the water sector
- Working towards a professional qualification in CIPS, CMI or similar.
- Degree or equivalent in procurement or business management related field
