ABOUT THE ROLE: As a member of Blu Dot's Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing 2D technical drawings, 3D assemblies and product inspection reports to aid in the development of Blu Dot products. You'll work with Blu Dot's in-house design team and global factory network to define manufacturing steps and ensure products meet design intent, while maintaining cost, quality and sustainability goals.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Lead and manage engineering functions in the technical development of Blu Dot products throughout the product lifecycle.
- Provide engineering support in the technical design of products to ensure: aesthetic and design intent; structural integrity; product performance; maximum efficiency of materials and fabrication;
- Generate detailed 2D drawings and specifications from Solidworks models and designs created and developed by in-house design team;
- Create product assembly instructions using Solidworks and Adobe Illustrator;
- Assist in the design and development of product packaging to meet transit and sustainability goals;
- Update Solidworks models, drawings and specifications as required for product changes and Engineering Change Orders;
- Review and document product prototypes and factory samples through Blu Dot's Quality Control platform;
- Assist in researching and documenting product testing and quality assurance protocols;
- Assist in the management and continuous improvement of the technical product development process, and all related standards, libraries and protocols;
- Initiate and participate in product and process improvement projects;
IDEAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS*:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Drafting, or other product design related field;
- 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment;
- Excellent proficiency with Solidworks;
- A positive collaborator with an enthusiastic, friendly demeanor;
- Proven ability to deliver quality work and meet tight deadlines;
- Highly proficient 3D thinker and problem solver;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Knowledge of common engineering drawing standards and protocols;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
- Experience in the furniture industry and knowledge of furniture practices is a plus;
- Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator experience is a plus;
- Able to lift 50 pounds repetitively;
- Position is based out of Minneapolis, MN headquarters with a flexible working environment/schedule (no full-time remote work available)
