Product Engineering Manager

Summary:

Responsible for leading and supervising a team of engineers as they develop, test, modify, and create engineered solutions to technical problems.


Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Supervise and lead engineers and technicians who design semiconductor processing machinery.


· Identify and develop required product engineering competencies required to achieve company objectives

· Hire, train, and mentor other engineers and supporting staff.

· Write performance reviews and solve internal issues.

· Confer with higher levels of management.


2. Lead & assist others in the analysis of engineering issues and develop viable, proactive solutions to problems


· Coordinate activities of the engineering function with other units or organizations to understand and meet customer needs

· Organize, plan, and execute projects & activities to meet customer or market needs

· Ensure timely, thorough, and accurate completion of all engineering activities

· Ensure the quality and technical accuracy of product engineering work.

· Oversee the research and development of new products, product features and methods.

· Review & approve new or modified product designs.

· Develop cost estimates.

· Draft and/or review proposals and reports for customers.

· Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts.

· Review and recommend contracts.

· Develop overall concepts for new products.


3. Continuously improve business processes and practices related to the product engineering function


· Establish detailed plans & schedules to accomplish departmental objectives

· Manage budget and related expenses per department requirements within corporate guidelines

· Manage outsource engineering service providers

· Establish criteria related to document drafting, documentation standards and practices.

· Assure compliance with all Plasma-Therm standards, policies, practices, etc.

4. Maintain a clean safe work environment

Positions which report directly to this one: product engineering personnel including mechanical, electrical and system engineers

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline, and· Minimum five years related experience, with minimum two years recent supervisory experience.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to lead and develop an engineering team
  • Ability to systematically solve and lead others in the solution of technical problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively: intradepartmentally, interdepartmentally and externally, with co- workers, vendors and customers, as required.
  • Ability to compile and analyze technical data, write reports, and present technical information to various groups.
  • Proficient in CAD (Inventor ), PLM (ADEPT ), and Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Ability to interpret technical journals and papers, and other related material.
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma principles
  • Working knowledge of product technology is .

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing laboratory, and clean room.
  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, touch, see, and hear, and may be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
