Job Summary:
The Production/Scheduling Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the production workflow in a dental laboratory. This role involves coordinating schedules, managing resources, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality dental products, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, partials and orthodontic appliances. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise, organizational skills, and a proactive approach to streamline operations and meet client expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain production schedules for dental lab technicians, ensuring efficient allocation of labor, equipment, and materials
- Monitor workflow to ensure deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards for dental restorations and appliances
- Collaborate with lab technicians, supervisors, and management to resolve production bottlenecks and adjust schedules as needed
- Analyze production data to identify trends, improve processes, and reduce turnaround times
- Manage inventory levels of raw materials (e.g., ceramics, resins, metals) and coordinate with procurement to avoid delays
- Implement and refine scheduling systems or software to enhance productivity and tracking
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and laboratory protocols
- Communicate with clients or dental offices as needed to confirm delivery timelines and address scheduling concerns
- Train staff on new scheduling tools or process improvements to enhance team efficiency
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in industrial engineering, operations management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of experience in production scheduling, manufacturing, or a dental laboratory environment
- Proficiency in scheduling software (e.g., ERP systems, MS Project, or similar tools) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Knowledge of dental laboratory processes, materials, and equipment is a plus
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Skills:
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles or process optimization
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM technology used in dental production
- Certification in production management or scheduling (e.g., APICS CPIM) is an advantage.
