The results will be used to develop an embedded sensing capability in a composite marine propeller. The role... You will be responsible for: Assisting in the integration of electrical and optical strain measurement instrumentation with legacy analogue load application control systems on a full-scale structural test. Contributing to the development and enhancement of COTS FBG sensing instrumentation to meet requirements of the experimental test program. Undertaking measurements using different instrumentation systems, collate and analyse the data and report on the findings. Assisting in the design and optimisation of the FBG sensing arrays to meet the system requirements. Contributing to project management documentation, technical risk assessments and FMECAs as required. The tasks will require expertise or abilities in the following areas: Knowledge in photonics and in the electro-optic instrumentation associated with the interrogation of optical fibre sensors. Experience with the preparation and handling of optical fibres including cleaving, fusion splicing and fibre termination. Proven ability to collect, analyse data and comment on its significance. At least 3 years demonstrated programming experience with languages including MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, C++. Familiarity with COMSOL and Solidworks desirable. Experience with developing methods to synchronise multiple data acquisition systems. Proven ability to work within a broad multidisciplinary team.
