Job Description:
Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking a skilled Project Engineer within our Structures Inspection department in our Pittsburgh, PA office. As a Staff Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting our bridge inspection projects by assisting with field inspections, data analysis, and report preparation.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a keen attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of bridges (structural inspections of all structure types), ensuring compliance with safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Utilize inspection tools and equipment to assess the condition of bridge components, including decks, superstructure, substructures, and culverts.
- Collect and analyze inspection data, including photographs, sketches, and measurements, using specialized software and databases.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and drawings, including findings, recommendations, and cost estimates.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to ensure that inspection work is completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain accurate records of inspection findings, field notes, and project documentation.
- Assist in coordinating with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance technical skills and knowledge of bridge inspection practices.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- 5 years of experience in bridge inspection/design or related field.
- Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) and Professional Engineer (PE) certificates are required.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and state DOT guidelines and standards for bridge inspection and maintenance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering software applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
