Position Summary: The Project Engineer (PE) position will assist in providing technical support to the construction staff. This position will work directly under the supervision of the Project Manager and/or VP of Construction. This seasonal will allow for an immersive experience for the student to gain exposure to the construction industry and an understanding of the following job tasks and project cycles including but not limited to: reviewing plans and other technical documents, observing and assisting with questions regarding the project scope, project timelines, and monitoring of costs and project progress, as directed. In addition, The PE will also gain in-the-field experience by supporting superintendents and carpenters on construction jobsites.

Essential Job Functions

Project Management Support:

Collaborate with the Project Team including VP of Construction, Project Manager, Superintendent and/or other key stakeholders to gather and deliver project-related information utilizing strong verbal and written communication including but not limited to in-person, over the phone, and email or text messaging.

Assist Project Manager in responding to questions about project drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders, as directed.

Assist with distribution of new and updated drawings and specifications, as needed.

Aid in soliciting bids/quotes, including research, transmittal, and monitoring RFIs using information provided.

Participate in owner/subcontractor meetings and take meeting minutes for Project Manager.

Assist with documentation and follow-up on action items from PM/PE Meetings.

Work with Superintendent to prepare 2-week rolling schedule and maintain documentation of ongoing updates.

Monitor and review submittals according to requirements.

Work with Project Manager to assist with quantity take-offs and estimates.

Gain exposure to AlA contracts and billing forms, along with monitoring and tracking of insurance certificates, performance bonds, and lien waivers.

Assist in the management of the close-out process.

Field Support:

Observe superintendents and carpenters on construction jobsites, gaining experience in field operations, safety practices, and site management.

Monitor work-in-progress during field visits and help with field measurements, as needed.

Provide computer-related support to superintendents for data entry, job site reports, etc. into construction specific software.

Support the distribution, research, and monitoring of proposed Change Orders, Architect supplemental instructions, submitting to the Project Manager for approval, and updating contract documents as approved.

Perform various contract administration and/or all other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Associate's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

Must have a valid drivers license.

Experience with Procore or other construction-related software is but not required.

Ability to work well with others, including department managers, project managers, and anyone involved in business development efforts.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including, but not limited to, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily exposed to indoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasionally, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally, the noise level in the work environment will be elevated and hearing protection and or other necessary PPE would be provided.
