The Project Engineer II (Electrical) will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of complex electrical, instrumentation, control, and communication systems for water/wastewater industry infrastructure projects. This role involves being the primary engineering resource on a project, managing project timelines and budgets, and ensuring high-quality, compliant solutions for clients. The ideal candidate will have expertise in electrical design, process control systems, and a strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver successful projects. Full-time, exempt position.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE

Design and implementation of electrical, instrumentation, control, and communication systems for water/wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and resources, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of projects.
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation, including three-line diagrams, elementary diagrams, wiring schematics, control panel layouts, I/O loop drawings, bill of materials, and testing documentation. Responsibilities include selecting process instrumentation and designing control panels, motor control centers (MCC), panelboards, switchboards, switchgear, PLC control panels, instrument panels, network & communication panels, and SCADA systems.
  • Be a cooperative and communicative team member, occasionally assisting junior team members with tasks when needed.
  • Collaborate with project managers, consultants, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and resolve any technical issues that arise.
  • Perform engineering work, ensuring that it meets or exceeds industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
  • Review and approve design and technical documentation, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, production, and commissioning, to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies, implementing best practices to improve project efficiency and quality.
  • Support the sales and estimating teams by providing technical expertise during project bidding and proposal development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by lead engineer.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, SKILLS, AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED

Minimum Experience: 4+ years of experience in electrical and controls design.

Degree Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field.

Certification Required: EIT certification .

Experience Required:

Business

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical engineering, with an emphasis on controls and automation systems for water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical design principles, codes, and industry standards.
  • Expertise in design and implementation of power distribution, motor controls, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, and communication systems for use in water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Can read and interpret technical plans and specifications.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proven experience in starting and leading complex projects from concept through to completion; solve complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.
  • Experience in managing budgets, schedules, and project resources effectively.
  • Understanding of the construction industry, its delivery models, regulations, and best practices. Familiarity with water/wastewater industry technologies and processes is highly .

Software

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Bluebeam/PDF software, MS Office, MS Project.

  • Critical thinking skills with a proven ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and discretion.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to thrive in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office-based in Folsom, CA with occasional site visits to project locations.
  • General work environment – sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is primarily conducted indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Occasional visits to outdoor locations.
  • Noise level is typically low to medium; it can be loud on a jobsite.
  • Ability to perform extensive computer work and work extended hours when necessary.
  • Occasional lifting of not to exceed 40 lbs.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
