Project Engineer - Power
Job Description
Role Overview:
Join JSM Group’s Power Division as a Project Engineer and take charge of day-to-day operations on major power infrastructure projects. You’ll lead projects with a focus on HV and EHV cable systems, managing civil works, hydraulic, and cable jointing, and working closely with key clients like Grid and major DNOs. Your goal? Efficiently utilise resources, control costs, and deliver projects on time and to specification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Oversee assigned projects, ensuring they meet time, cost, and quality targets, with full adherence to client specifications.
- Client & Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong client relationships, presenting technical and commercial benefits, and representing JSM in pre- and post-tender meetings.
- Safety & Compliance: Implement SHEQ policies, deliver safety briefings, and conduct regular site audits to maintain a safe working environment.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare RAMS, maintain progress reports, and manage project documentation to support seamless contract administration.
- Team & Resource Leadership: Manage project teams, subcontractors, and resources, ensuring efficient workflow and quality outcomes.
- Innovation & Improvement: Identify and implement cost-effective innovations and quality improvements for ongoing project success.

Skills & Competencies:
- Leadership: Positive, effective leader with a track record of managing teams.
- Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of power engineering, especially HV/EHV cable systems.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal skills, able to confidently present to clients and teams.
- Problem-solving: Proactive and organised, with a knack for troubleshooting and decision-making under pressure.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 7 years in the Electricity Supply Industry, with 2+ years in project management roles.
- Technical Skills: DNO experience (UKPN/SSEN ), fluid-filled cable expertise, and familiarity with MS Project, Excel, and Outlook.
- Certifications: CITB or equivalent in site safety management, and CSCS card for competency.
