As our Transmissions Line Engineer, you’ll be responsible for performing professional level engineering assignments to support the effective operation and maintenance of FortisBC’s transmission systems and related capital projects.In this role, you will: Perform professional level engineering assignments to support the effective operation and maintenance of FortisBC’s transmission systems and related capital projects. Utilize engineering principles, standards, and practices to ensure designs effectively balance safety, health, environment, cost, construction, operation, maintenance, and performance criteria. Participate as a team member in specific phases of engineering assignments and ensure compliance with standards, best practice methodology and quality assurance. Prepare appropriate documentation for assigned projects and support enhancements and process re-design projects, including concept and business case development. Perform in-depth analysis of data for input into plans; evaluate observations, and prepare technical reports of findings. Review portions of moderately complex plans, designs, applications and permits. Collaborate with other engineers, design technicians, project managers, construction managers, operations and others related to project assessment, definitions, and the coordination of work assignments. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of own field of expertise and engage in development activities to maintain current knowledge and gain experience in more complex scenarios. In year 1, you will: Familiarize and learn all about FortisBC’s standards, guidelines and practices related to this responsibility Work in the field with PMO and Operations to understand our business Learn to become an efficient user of PLSCADD Understand the Issue for Construction (IFC) process from estimation to design completion, construction, and As-builting. In year 2, you will: Handle all key responsibilities independently with minimal support from senior engineers. What it takes: A bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering from an accredited university Ability to drive for results through planning, alignment, execution, and customer experience/responsiveness. Ability to make optimal decisions through accountability, judgement, problem-solving, prudent risk-taking, market/industry awareness, and maintaining customer focus.
