Jewett Automation is a fast growing, industrial automation and systems integration company seeking a project manager to lead and motivate teams of engineers and technicians to execute the design and construction of custom engineered automation equipment. The successful candidate will have knowledge of a variety of factory automation systems and enjoy a collaborative environment, demonstrate critical thinking, superior problem solving, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication and organizational skills.
This is an exempt position with benefits reporting to the Richmond General Manager. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. The job is based in Richmond, Virginia. Occasional travel is expected.
Responsibilities:
- Build Jewett Automation’s brand as a customer focused company, by delivering exceptional customer service and timely responses.
- Manage projects such that they achieve defined schedule, scope, and budget.
- Lead schedule development and management activities through the Last Planner process.
- Identify potential project risks lead the development of mitigation plans.
- Be the customer’s point of contact on projects and communicate any changes between the customer and the project team.
- Manage Engineering Change Orders and associated project budgets.
- Balance the quoted equipment and the customer’s changing needs to manage scope creep.
- Provide project updates to the Customer and to Jewett Automation management.
- Collaborate across the organization to manage the development, evaluation, approval and implementation of automation equipment designs.
- Oversee product/machine construction and testing to ensure the project achieves specified scope.
- Work with procurement to understand how potential supply chain issues may impact schedule.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Experience managing projects ranging in value from $50,000 to $5 million.
- Working knowledge of Project Management methods and processes.
- Experience in managing and communicating project financials.
- Experience in industrial automation, with robotics and automation machinery design background helpful.
- Strong fundamental engineering knowledge. Bachelor’s degree in engineering but not necessary.
- Knowledge of standard automation machine elements (e.g. bearings, gearboxes, timing belts, mechanical indexers, servos, and pneumatic actuators).
- Familiarity with common electrical components (e.g. sensors, motors, PLC, and HMI) and industrial controls systems.
- Knowledge of robotic suppliers and robotic systems.
- Project Management certification is a plus.
- AutoCAD & SolidWorks CAD systems familiarity .
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to sell ideas.
- Management experience, preferably in a manufacturing or equipment design and build environment.
- Friendly, agreeable personality and able to work with all types of people.
