SP Energy Networks (SPEN) asset strategy team is growing to enhance our Operational Technology asset management capabilities! The Protection of our networks is vital to keep it safe and resilient. This role is key to ensure operational excellence and deliver value to our stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the OT Asset Strategy Manager, the Protection Asset Strategy Manager will be SPEN leading expert on Protection asset management, determining the investment and performance strategy for the Protection Systems of our Transmission and Distribution networks. You will manage a team of SMEs, providing guidance and mentoring to facilitate their development.
Key elements of this role include

Define, approve, and monitor asset management strategies and policies for the Protection Systems of the Transmission and Distribution Networks.

Driving development and continuously improving asset risk and performance review methodologies, articulating lessons learned and remediation actions to achieve operational excellence.

Defining Protection Assets’ Investment needs cases and strategic long-term plans, leading the regulatory interface for Protections Systems.

Ensuring our Protection Systems are compliant with the Network & Information System Regulations

Be at the forefront of the industry innovation for Protection Systems, identifying new technology opportunities to improve our network performance.
As Protection Asset Strategy Manager, you’ll define policies related to design and resilience of Protection Systems for Transmission and Distribution Licences, as well as Inspection, Maintenance, Defects and End of Life policies.
You’ll influence the development of asset data models and information systems, supporting the development of asset risk and performance methodologies, defining strategic long-term plans for the Protection Systems, and developing investment need cases.
Other aspects of the role include leading engagement with our operational business areas and Cyber Security team as well as representing SPEN in Industry technical forums and Asset Management groups, ensuring long-term asset stewardship, and leading engagement on behalf of SPEN with key Government and industry stakeholders.
What you’ll bring

Expert knowledge Protection systems for electrical networks with a degree in relevant engineering discipline, a Chartered Engineer accreditation would be highly valued.

Good knowledge of asset management systems and the ISO 55000 framework.

Knowledge and understanding of SPEN Licence Obligations and Industry Codes/Standards for the design and operation of the Transmission and Distribution Protection Systems.

Knowledge of the NIS regulations and the wider regulatory framework.

Experience in asset management within a utility environment.

Experience leading a team (coaching, mentoring)

Strong presentational and communication skills with ability to clearly articulate and structure information to a technical and non-technical audience.
