Position: Pulsed Power Engineering TechnicianLocation: Richmond, BC, CanadaGeneral Fusion is transforming how the world is energized by developing the first commercially-viable fusion power plant. Fusion will deliver clean, safe, and on-demand power at industrial scale, providing a powerful complement to renewables and a pathway to a zero-emissions grid. Combining new technologies, proven industrial processes, and advances in fundamental fusion science, General Fusion aims to be the first in the world to develop commercial fusion power.Position Overview:The Pulsed Power Engineering Technician will provide hands-on support of mechanical and electrical equipment related to General Fusion’s pulsed power equipment. Our fusion concept requires the ability to deliver high energy ( MJ) short ( ms) and high voltage ( kV) pulses of electrical energy into plasma generators and magnets. This requires unique arrangements of batteries, power supplies capacitors , inductors and switch gear. The technician will be part of a team that builds and maintains an assortment of complex and unique equipment, machinery, and testing apparatuses. Key Responsibilities:Assemble and maintain pulsed power specific equipment such as buss work, relays, high voltage switches, coaxial cabling, and pneumatic systemsMaintain shop, shop tools, and materialsDesign and construct static mechanical jigs, fixtures, stands, brackets and holders using varied materials including: steel, plastic, aluminum stock and extrusionsSpecify and order parts and materials for these projectsWork while keeping personal and co-worker safety as the top priority Relevant Skills and Experience:Required:Experience working in a shop or lab environment and / or working hands-on with electrical and mechanical equipment Hands-on electrical experience including wiring, soldering, and basic troubleshootingMechanical skills including mechanical assembly, and basic shop tools (drill press, bandsaw, belt sander)Excellent time management skillsAbility to lift up to 20 kgBasic computer literacy (Excel, Outlook)Preferred: 2-4 years relevant experience which may include:Experience with high-voltage or high-energy electrical systemsExperience with electrical troubleshooting equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other lab equipmentDemonstrated workshop skills including:Steel fabricationMIG/TIG weldingLathe and mill operationFamiliarity with 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks)Familiarity with 3D printing (SLA or FDM) PLC programming or related control system experienceExperience working with, and safely moving large equipment. Forklift experience an assetHobby project experience with any combination of the above skillsThis role requires self-directed work that is often driven by employee initiative.
