Purchasing Manager

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for the strategic and tactical purchasing requirements for the Company. They will create and maintain relations with suppliers, negotiating contracts and pricing, and ensure that materials are available and delivered on time for project needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Purchases materials, components, parts, operating supplies, and service equipment as directed with best overall value.
• Initiates specialized purchases as directed.
• Research products and pricing for projects as requested for purposes of pricing products and quoting prices to customers for job estimates.
• Secures timely delivery of quality materials by working with vendors, and controls cost by managing supplies.
• Meets with supplier representatives as necessary to update knowledge of available products and prices.
• Expedite orders, track deliveries, and resolve shipping issues.
• Updates and maintains of quote files.
• Develops alternate plans for material shortages.
• Advises Project Manager of potential delivery problems.
• Works with Project Managers regarding special component requirements.
• Works with Accounting personal to ensure accurate invoicing and cost of materials.

Competencies:

• Excellent and demonstrated knowledge of purchasing principles and practices required.
• Knowledge of manufacturing and or construction systems required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to discuss technical information with others.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in business or field related to inventory/materials management.
• Three or more years directly related purchasing experience, material handling, construction, or a combination of education and work experience.
• Previous experience within a construction or manufacturing environment preferred.
