GreenSpark Solar is looking for an innovative and detail-oriented PV Designer to join our team! In this role, you will design and develop ground-mounted commercial solar PV projects, adjusting designs to match real-world conditions at project sites. You will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to guide projects from contract to completion, ensuring code compliance, efficiency, and safety.

Essential Job Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and confirm preliminary site data provided by sales staff.

  • Manage engineering site audits using drone imagery and other technologies to gather structural and electrical data for PV designs.

  • Conduct shade analysis and energy production modeling using tools such as SolarPathfinder, PVStudio, and Helioscope.

  • Research and ensure designs comply with the Electric Code, International Fire Code, local building and zoning codes, and other applicable regulations.

  • Create electrical single-line and three-line diagrams for solar PV systems, battery systems, and electric vehicle charging stations using CAD or similar software.

  • Design array layouts and structural racking plans for ground-mounted systems, utilizing manufacturer software and design tools.

  • Collaborate with subcontractors, engineers, and professionals on structural and electrical designs.

  • File for necessary permits, grants, and approvals.

  • Navigate utility interconnection requirements and resolve related issues.

  • Review specifications and suggest engineering or equipment changes to achieve design objectives.

  • Provide technical guidance and support during installation, start-up, testing, commissioning, and performance monitoring.

  • Update and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control measures, and safety standards.

  • Maintain checklists for reviewing completed solar installation projects.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience in Solar Design .

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field .

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; AutoCAD, PVSyst, and System Advisory Model.

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).

  • Knowledge of the Electric Code (NEC), International Fire Code (IFC), and other relevant building codes.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to self-proof work.

  • Familiarity with structural, mechanical, and electrical design principles.

  • Ability to create accurate, detailed construction drawings using computer modeling software.

  • Previous experience with solar power systems or certifications (e.g., NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional) .

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
