Quality Control Laboratory Manager

Our client is a leading specialist materials business headquartered in Cambridge, known for delivering high-quality, innovative products across various industries, including aerospace and automotive. They are seeking a skilled QC Laboratory Manager to join their team and oversee the efficient operation of their Mechanical and Chemical Testing Laboratories.


QC Laboratory Manager responsibilities

  • To manage the Mechanical (tensile, compression, non-destructive) and Chemical Testing (HPLC) Laboratories efficiently to achieve the production plan in a timely manner, whilst maintaining and improving safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Provide technical and management support to ensure best lab practices and robust test methods with good repeatability, complying with aerospace, quality, and testing standards.
  • Manage the day-to-day QC and IPC Testing laboratory operations to meet the requirements of the testing plan and ensure ‘on time’ targets are met.
  • Drive continuous improvement of laboratory systems and processes through the QC laboratories, ensuring all test methods and equipment are suitably qualified and validated.
  • Manage a team of Laboratory supervisors and Laboratory Engineers.
  • Develop the use of 5s and Lean methodologies and working practices across the Laboratories.
  • Organise daily staff and shift activities so that the throughput of work is optimised, and all plans and production requirements are achieved on time.


QC Laboratory Manager requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in Chemistry, Mechanical or Materials Engineering – or closely related.
  • Experience of managing a QC laboratory with proven technical ability – within a chemical and mechanical environment.
  • Possess a strong back in chemical and mechanical analysis including HPLC, tensile, and non-destructive.
  • Sound knowledge of testing practices and procedures (HPLC and DSC included)
  • Experience with ERP or MRP systems and LIMS. Strong general IT skills.
  • Test method validation, and equipment qualification, with proven lean, continuous improvement experience. AS9100, ISO9001 and NADCAP awareness.
  • Team Management experience.
