Quality Engineer

Under the direction of the Quality and CI Manager, the Quality Engineer is responsible for evaluating and improving activities associated with the application, development and maintenance of quality tasks in support of Hampel’s Quality Management System (QMS) and the reliability and continuous improvement of product and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Continuously review and improve the identification and application of elements of the corrective action process, including problem identification, failure analysis, root cause analysis, problem correction, recurrent control and verification of effectiveness.
  • Investigate, analyze and initiate corrective action of adverse quality trends using information from customers, suppliers and Hampel manufacturing, engineering and sales teams.
  • Use plant metrics and other derived data to lead or assist quality improvement activities through participation on cross functional teams assembled as necessary.
  • Provide interface between Quality team and all other teams relative to Hampel’s QMS.
  • With process owners, manage Hampel’s QMS documentation, files and related compliance matters, including all ISO requirements.
  • Assign, schedule and coordinate internal and external quality audits, following up on corrective actions as necessary. 
  • Provide employee Quality training as required and train all internal ISO auditors.
  • Assist Engineering in the development and maintenance of Work Instructions to ensure appropriate quality guidelines, processes and procedures.
  • Participate in DPAR reviews as required.
  • Process non-conforming material, including maintenance of applicable return goods authorization (RGA) procedures.
  • Facilitate and process customer returns and warranty claims including maintenance of applicable Return Good Authorization (RGA) and warranty procedures.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement raw material testing and inspection methods and techniques as required.
  • Provide training and coaching to team members for quality checks, reading prints, use of checking fixtures, completing quality data sheets. 
  • Promote awareness of the Hampel QMS and related procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to control testing, manufacturing, assembly processes, tracking systems, cycle-time goals, standard operating procedures, product quality, process control, supplier quality processes, ISO audits, receiving inspections, supplier audits, quality and contract proposals and other related activities as may be assigned.
  • Communicate and work effectively with customers, suppliers and Hampel team members to prevent, minimize or correct deficiencies in product or process.
  • Maintain a positive, professional working relationship with Hampel customers, suppliers and team members.
  • Maintain calibration system including gauge calibration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Experience Required

  • 3 – 5 years in quality related field
  • Previous manufacturing experience, in the thermoforming industry would be a plus.
  • Computer literate and functional use of Microsoft office products.
