Summit Anaheim currently has an open position for Quality Engineer (1st shift). Summit Interconnect is a manufacturer of advanced technology printed circuit boards with a specific focus on complex rigid and rigid-flex product with unique expertise in RF/Microwave applications.
Position Summary: The Quality Engineer has the responsibility of facilitating the goal of Perfect Quality. The Quality Engineer will be the instrument in Summit’s efforts to consistently provide our Customers with printed circuit boards that meet and exceed Customer and IPC specifications. The Quality Engineer will work directly with Operations and Manufacturing management to identify and eliminate potential and recurring process problems. The Quality Engineer will be instrumental in garnering inter-departmental cooperation to achieve Summit’s goal of Perfect Quality.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsibility for Quality of all product in process:
a. Document Control maintenance
b. Quality reporting/graphing
c. CAR/SCAR system
d. Maintain calibration system
e. Supplier audits as needed
f. Customer surveys/tours/audits
g. Establish and maintain methods of Continuous Improvement throughout the entire manufacturing process
h. Ensure that product trends toward compliance at each process step by utilizing statistical sampling methods
i. Establish and maintain detection mechanisms to alert operators when product deviates from optimal
j. Establish and maintain relevant metrics to assess improvement or deterioration of in-process product quality
k. Implement and maintain of statistical process control methods
l. Coordinate with Operations and manufacturing where required to implement temporary or systemic process changes
m. Material Review of internal scrap and rejected material and allocation of internal or vendor corrective action requests
n. Assists in various other duties as needed
2. Departmental process responsibilities:
a. Acts as Process Engineer in the following departments, ensuring that methods are continuously refined and optimized:
i. Inspection
ii. Electrical Test (including outside test services)
iii. AOI
iv. Dry Laboratory
b. Responsible for auditing and approving relevant services (e.g. test services, lab services, AOI services, etc.)
3. Administration:
a. Administer customer requested corrective action requests.
b. Create and maintain yield reports for discrete processes where needed.
c. Implementation or revision of process instructions, forms, or log sheets as required.
d. Through the Director of Quality Assurance, ensure that Quality Work Procedures/ Instructions reflect the most robust processing methods
e. Obtaining UL approval and certification of new materials and constructions as necessary
4. Customer Support:
a. When required, interface with Customers to reconcile complaints related to Quality of shipped product
b. Provide internal technical support for customers requested corrective actions
c. Conduct Failure Analysis and reporting on customer returned product when required
5. Goals
a. Continuously improve the quality of work in your department, develop measurement parameters to track progress
b. Consistently and prudently, manage hours in your department to minimize overtime hours expended
c. Consistently strive to reduce cycle time in your are by efficient scheduling, machine use, and operator training
d. Ensure that your department achieves and maintains the highest state of operational proficiency and readiness
- Customer Support:
- When required, interface with Customers to reconcile complaints related to Quality of shipped product.
- Provide internal technical support for customer requested corrective actions.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, prefer Manufacturing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies.
- Strong computer skills in Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Ability to use charting and statistical capabilities of programs.
- Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e. intuitive understanding of mechanical processes).
- Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
- Customer quality assurance experience.
- Previous audit experience.
- Adaptable, open to and actively solicit new ideas and opinions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional work groups including suppliers, customers and associates, both verbally and in writing. Excellent listening skills.

Physical Demands:
- Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Excellent concentration and must be able to remain focused with minor interruptions.
