Quality Engineer

Job DescriptionJob Description1.0 Position Summary

This position is responsible for assuring Quality standards and requirements are maintained and product integrity is preserved. Works with various company departments to investigate and solve quality problems for continuous improvement, and is also responsible for creating and maintaining quality documentation.

2.0 Primary Functions

• Ensure products meet the organization and customer quality and product integrity requirements;
• Assist with inspection techniques and provide knowledge of inspection and measuring instruments;
• Assist in identifying & managing nonconforming products;
• Create & track Nonconformance reports for discrepant products;
• Collaborate with the department supervisors and Quality Control representatives to perform root cause analysis and solve daily issues;
• Work closely with the manufacturing staff to ensure implementation of corrective actions on the production floor;
• Verify effectiveness of the implemented corrective actions;
• Perform statistical analysis of data for defective products to evaluate re-work cost and identify cost-saving opportunities;
• Assist the Quality Systems Manager in creating & maintaining Quality documentation in line with industry standards (ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D);
• Assist in optimizing workflow processes to improve efficiency & to eliminate non-value added activities related to Quality;
• Generate 'rework/repair instructions' to rework/repair defective products based on the customer disposition
• Generate Certificates of Conformance and customer required documentation for products that comply with established quality requirements;
• Interface with customer for non-conforming and other quality related issues;
• Promote continuous improvement in the manufacturing process

3.0 Additional Duties

• May develop or assist with calculations or data collection to support KPI metrics.
• Participates in quality training as assigned by supervisor.
• Provides additional duties as required.

4.0 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree in Quality, Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering;
• 5+ years of manufacturing plant or quality related experience
• Knowledge of thermal spray coating and thermal spray coating processes
• Strong interpersonal skills and presentation skills
• Good computer skills required including MS Office and MS Excel
• Possesses deep knowledge of quality systems, quality control, lean manufacturing, six sigma, and statistical analysis
• Non-conforming products management ability
• Quality Management System basic training (based on ISO9001)
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Understand product workflow on a part by part or job basis
• Ability to interact with customers, and exercise discretion in dealings
• Ability to adapt to a constant flow of newly qualified parts/specifications
• High level of attention to detail
• Must be able to multitask, and manage multiple priorities
• Ability to spend time sitting at a desk or workstation.
• Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Ability to maintain customer and Flame Spray confidentiality in regard to specifications, drawings, purchase orders, employee personnel actions, and financial matters
• An essential function for this position, based on business necessity, is that the employee must be physically in attendance at his/her workstation at the designated company office location during the normal business hours.

5.0 Working Conditions

This position is an inside position working 15% of the time in a climate-controlled environment and 85% of the time in a non-climate controlled environment.
