Job Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Quality Engineer to join our team within a fast-paced, precision-driven aerospace and defense machine shop. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality of manufactured parts and assemblies meet the stringent standards and specifications required for aerospace and defense applications. The Quality Engineer will work closely with production, engineering, and design teams to identify opportunities for improvement, perform inspections, and maintain compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Control & Inspection:

    • Perform in-process and final inspections of parts and assemblies to ensure they meet engineering specifications and customer requirements.

    • Use various inspection tools and techniques such as CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement equipment.

    • Document and analyze inspection results, identifying non-conformities and corrective actions.

  • Quality Assurance Management:

    • Maintain quality control processes, procedures, and systems to ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, and other relevant aerospace/defense standards.

    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address quality concerns and improve manufacturing processes.

    • Perform root cause analysis on non-conformance issues and lead corrective/preventive action (CAPA) investigations.

    • Assist with both internal and external audits by regulatory bodies and/or customers.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for process optimization, waste reduction, and enhanced product quality.

    • Participate in the development and execution of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma projects.

  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of inspection data, corrective actions, and quality metrics.

    • Prepare and present detailed reports on quality performance, trends, and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • Minimum High School Diploma (Secondary Education )

    • 3-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role, ideally within the aerospace/defense or manufacturing sectors.

    • Familiarity with aerospace/defense standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, and other related certifications.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong knowledge of quality tools and techniques such as SPC (Statistical Process Control), FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), root cause analysis, and CAPA.

    • Proficient in the use of precision measurement tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers, etc.).

    • Solid understanding of machining processes and materials commonly used in aerospace and defense manufacturing (e.g., aluminum alloys, titanium, composites).

    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Certifications ():

    • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) from ASQ or equivalent.

    • Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt or similar lean manufacturing certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to [weight] lbs.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a machine shop environment.

  • Familiarity with shop safety standards and personal protective equipment (PPE).
