Quantity Surveyor- HPC, Greater Bristol UK


Reporting to: Commercial Manager


Job Requirements:

  • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) membership or working toward membership is .


Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in quantity surveying, with experience in infrastructure or complex construction projects.
  • Familiarity with NEC/JCT and other contract management frameworks.


Technical Skills:

Cost Estimation & Budgeting:

Proven ability to develop and manage comprehensive cost estimates and budgets for large-scale, complex construction projects. Skilled in preparing detailed breakdowns of costs for labor, materials, and equipment, ensuring adherence to project budgets and identifying opportunities for cost savings. Forecasting & Financial Analysis:

Experienced in forecasting project costs and cash flows over the project lifecycle, with a solid understanding of financial modelling techniques. Able to analyze financial data, identify variances from the budget, and provide clear reporting to support strategic financial decisions. Contract Administration & Compliance:

Proficient in contract management, particularly with NEC3 and NEC4 contract frameworks, including contract setup, amendments, risk management, and compliance. Skilled in maintaining contract documentation, managing variations, and ensuring adherence to terms and conditions. Value Engineering:

Strong knowledge of value engineering techniques to optimize project value and reduce costs while maintaining quality standards. Able to analyse materials, processes, and construction techniques to identify more efficient or cost-effective alternatives. Risk Management:

Knowledgeable in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial and contractual risks. Familiar with risk assessment methodologies and able to collaborate with project teams to develop risk registers and mitigation strategies specific to a high-security, regulated environment. Procurement & Supply Chain Management:

Skilled in procurement planning and supplier selection, with an understanding of supply chain dynamics in the nuclear construction sector. Experienced in sourcing and negotiating with suppliers, preparing procurement documents, and managing supplier relationships. Project Controls & Performance Measurement:

Expertise in implementing and maintaining project controls to monitor performance, progress, and costs. Familiar with Earned Value Management (EVM) and other techniques to measure and report on project performance against schedules and budgets. Quantity Surveying Software Proficiency:

Proficient in industry-standard quantity surveying and cost management software, including Construct, or similar tools, to prepare cost estimates, conduct take-offs, and track project costs. Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools such as Excel, Power BI, and project management software (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project) is advantageous. Technical Documentation & Reporting:

Strong skills in preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including cost reports, financial forecasts, contract documentation, and change order records. Ability to present data clearly and concisely to stakeholders, highlighting key insights for effective decision-making.

Project-Specific Requirements:

  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations specific to nuclear construction environments.
  • CSCS safety UK card or CITB qualification
  • Ability to work in high-security, highly regulated project settings.
  • Strong grasp of environmental and sustainability standards as applied to construction projects.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work onsite at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.
  • Ability to undergo and pass security vetting and background checks required for access to a nuclear facility.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours if necessary due to project demands.
