Job Specification - Permanent Quantity Surveyor (QS)



Location: Glasgow Office (4 days per week in the office, 1 day per week from home)



About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join our client within the Renewable Energy and Infrastructure sector. The ideal candidate will bring their expertise to work on large-scale projects involving Battery Energy Storage, Solar Systems, and transmission connections to the grid. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in HV (High Voltage) works, civils, and electrical experience, particularly within the energy and infrastructure sectors.



Key Responsibilities:



* Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Prepare and manage detailed cost estimates, budgets, and financial plans for large-scale renewable energy projects, ensuring all costs are carefully controlled and tracked.



* Contract Management: Oversee the tendering process, manage contracts, and ensure that all contractual obligations are adhered to, including dealing with any potential variations or disputes.



* Financial Reporting: Provide accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring that project costs are monitored against budgets and highlighting any variances.



* Procurement Support: Assist with the procurement process for materials, services, and subcontractors, ensuring the best value for money while maintaining quality standards.



* Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work closely with internal teams (engineering, construction, commissioning) and external partners to ensure smooth project delivery, while keeping all stakeholders informed of project financials and performance.



* Project Lifecycle Management: Manage the financial aspects of projects from mobilisation through to energisation and handover, including supporting cost forecasting and final accounts.



Required Experience and Skills:



* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction or energy sector, with a focus on HV works, civil, or electrical projects, preferably within the renewable energy industry.



* Strong understanding of cost control, procurement, and contract management processes.



* Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or grid connection projects, particularly with a focus on Battery Energy Storage and Solar Systems.



* Strong knowledge of UK electricity network connections, including distribution and transmission voltage levels.



* Experience in managing Independent Connection Provider (ICP) projects, particularly in 132kV connections, would be highly beneficial.



* Solid understanding of construction contracts, including NEC, FIDIC, JCT, and other related forms of contract.



* Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.



* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.



* A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is .



* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS) is desirable but not essential
