Compass Government Solutions is seeking a dedicated Research scientist supporting the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence in Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO. This position will assist with developing DoD/ TBICoE gap and priority-driven clinical research studies, including formulating experimental hypotheses and study designs, writing proposals and protocols, and processing, analyzing, and interpreting experimental and other study data. S/he will coordinate with other technical and professional staff to prepare documents, written reports, presentations, and manuscripts for submission to government customers, scientific conferences, and journals. S/he will also complete other projects related to TBICoE clinical research as needed.

 

Job Description

• Leads and/or assists the development and execution of clinical research studies/projects and carries out all necessary responsibilities related to these projects, including proposal submissions, protocol development, database management, data analysis and interpretation, and dissemination.
• Develops and serves as SME for a line of clinical research within the Fort Carson TBICoE research portfolio aligned with his/her own area(s) of expertise. This line of research should prioritize clinically translatable research to optimize TBI outcomes and support force readiness and resilience.
• Leads and/or assists with formulating experimental hypotheses and study designs aligned with research gaps and priorities outlined by DoD/TBICoE.
• Prepares study proposals for internal and external funding to include leading and/or assisting with grant proposal applications, their associated documentations, and requirements.
• Works closely with study coordinators and other research staff to develop study protocols and data collection and database management procedures.
• Assists with writing and submitting IRB protocols and reports.
• Analyzes and interprets data from clinical research studies performed at Fort Carson and/or other TBICoE network sites. May perform high-level technical analyses, including database coding (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS), application of advanced statistical techniques (e.g., SEM, linear mixed modeling, bootstrapping), and/or processing physiological and/or time series data (e.g., HRV, eye tracking, pupillometry, EEG).
• Prepares documents, written reports, presentations and manuscripts for submission to scientific conferences and journals. Attends and participates in scholarly, academic and scientific meetings related to TBI. Presents TBICoE’s clinical research findings at internal and external scientific meetings.
• Provides collaborative assistance to other Research Scientists and research teams in the TBICoE network.
• Facilitates research productivity with a larger group of multidisciplinary research collaborators.
• Other duties consistent with the above responsibilities.

 

Position Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Must have knowledge of human subjects research protections regulations and best practices.
• Must have foundational knowledge of statistics and their appropriate application to clinical research data (e.g., ANOVAs, regressions); knowledge and application of advanced statistical techniques (e.g., cluster analyses, SEM, linear mixed modeling) is strongly .
• Must be proficient with at least one statistical software package (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS).
• Knowledge of basic and/or advanced processing and analysis of physiological data and/or time series data (e.g., HRV, EEG, eye tracking, pupillometry) is .
• Must have ability to troubleshoot technical procedures, ability to work independently, and have excellent communication skills.
• Must have excellent collaborative skills and ability to function as a part of a research team.
• Must be able to work comfortably with standard computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Qualifications

Education/Training:

• Ph.D., MD or MD/PhD or terminal doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Neuroscience, Sports Medicine, Epidemiology, or related scientific discipline .
• May consider a Master’s level degree with at least 7 years of clinical TBI research experience and satisfactory publication history.
• Must complete CITI/HIPAA training.
 

Minimum Experience:
• 2-3 years of post-doctoral clinical human subjects research experience with a strong publication record is required.
• S/he will have experience producing manuscripts for publications in peer-review journals and abstracts for presentation at scientific conferences.
• Prior experience performing clinical research within the DoD/VA systems of care is .
• Prior experience performing clinical research in a clinical population is strongly , with additional preference for experience with neurological and/or TBI populations.
