Resident Mechanical Engineer

Your Impact: As a Resident Mechanical Engineer for the Spent Fuel Handling Project at the Naval Reactors Facility at Idaho National Lab you will perform a variety of engineering functions as part of onsite construction support. This includes trade-oriented responsibilities, providing and following codes and regulations, and client specific design criteria and being able to go into the field and check for compliance.  Duties may include coordination with Quality on inspections and other project functions. S/he would also be doing the support for review, substitution for materials or equipment, answering RFIs (first line of review), support construction on site in the event there was an issue in the field, get involved to provide answers and support from a day-to-day technical perspective. For the Spent Fuel Handling Project at the Naval Reactors Facility at Idaho National Lab you will perform a variety of mechanical engineering design functions during construction including the following tasks:  review subcontractor submittals, respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s), survey/assess mechanical scope during installation, scoping and estimating level of engineering effort; field work to assess existing conditions; report writing; revise specifications, and calculation analyses; assistance with cost estimating; and services during bidding and construction, including answering requests for information, bid review, shop drawing review, commissioning support, hosting progress meetings, and project closeout. Let’s get to work.  Here’s What You’ll Need: BS-Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-certified institution Experience in the design of mechanical systems including HEPA filtration systems and Industrial Exhaust. PE license in Idaho or willingness to quickly obtain an Idaho License Sole USA Citizenship is required. No Dual citizens or visas for this role 10 years design experience Must have strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and within the client organization.    Preferred Qualifications:  NQA-1 experience Previous DOE Nuclear project experience Previous experience working with teaming subcontractors Experience in both air side and hydronic systems. Building Information Management design software. Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, PipeFlo Knowledge of building and design codes, including IBC, IMS, UPC, NFPA, and ASME Experience in industrial/government design of Mechanical, HVAC, B31.3 Piping, Plumbing Systems required, Fire Protection design experience desired but not required.   Essential Functions Work Environment:  Equipment and Machines: Standard office PC, with software will be provided  On-Site Security training is mandatory before performing project duties.  Timely response to resolve issues is expected.  Travel required – As needed  OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Valid driver's license is required.
