JOB TITLE: Safety Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Safety Manager
EFFECTIVE DATE: 03/01/2025
SUMMARY:
The Safety Coordinator role focuses on enforcing safety protocols, identifying hazards, and promoting a culture of safety among all personnel on-site. The coordinator will work closely with field managers to proactively address safety concerns and ensure compliance with safety standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct job site safety observations and inspections to identify and address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Organize and prepare the delivery of safety meetings and training.Ensure employees follow safe work procedures as specified in RI Resource Recovery Operations Manual, tool-box meetings, OSHA standards, and all required training.
- Investigate and review accidents or injuries to develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Work with Safety Manager and Human Resources to ensure deficiencies are addressed in a timely manner.
- Perform safety walks throughout the shift and observe performance of job tasks to ensure safe job procedures are being followed.
- Counsel employees on safe job procedures when necessary.
- Report observations to Safety Manager
- Participation in New Hire .
- Work with Supervisors on periodic reviews of JSA’s, LOTO procedures and Hazard Analysis within the department
- Provide input to Safety Manager on improvements/additions to training for new hires/transferring employees.
- Serve as a liaison between the company and general contractors, subcontractors, unions, insurance representatives, and safety agencies.
- Facilitate safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce best practices.
- Coordinate emergency response planning and conduct periodic drills.
- Maintain clear communication with the Safety Manager, Human Resources, management team, and subcontractors to address safety concerns.
- Asist in all onsite landfill construction projects and activities and ensure safety procedures are adhered to
- Assist in training events for company personnel and sub-contractors
- Perform customer outreach activities and distribute related materials
- Asist with traffic management
- Conduct daily safety patrols and remain in constant contact with customers, vendors, managers and contractors
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with RIRRC safety and health requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
- This is an hourly, full-time, non-exempt position
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three years in construction/landfill safety or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable to operate company equipment.
- Work independently
- Strong understanding of construction/ landfill safety practices, regulations, and risk mitigation.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Micro soft Office Suite or related software
- Quick self-starter, team-oriented and able to work with different personalities and professional
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively and tactfully with co-workers, management, and the public.
- Knowledge of principles of superior customer service.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Required (Can be achieved after employment.)
- Must be able to work overtime hours as needed
- Computer skills required
