In this role, the successful Safety Coordinator provides leadership, support and assistance for environmental health and safety programs and projects. The focus is on well-defined, routine projects and tasks that require a basic understanding of regulatory and technical issues and basic problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
This role requires that the individual plan, organize, and control functions and activities under the scope of this job description. Oversee all activities related to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Manages a supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of Hospital-wide safety programs to ensure a secure environment for the hospital community on a 24-hour basis.
Requirements
Bachelors Degree strongly preferred
Five to seven years of progressively more responsible related work experience in healthcare-based Environment of Care, Safety and/or Emergency Management experience
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.), and Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc)
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
Ability to exhibit timely decision-making and adaptive leadership experience under stressful conditions
Previous experience in ergonomic evaluations and/or degree in related field preferred.
Position Summary:
In addition, the position will include the administration of a fit testing program in accordance with CFR 1910.134. The position is also responsible for providing training as well as administering specific tasks to implementing and administratively run an effective ergonomic program designed at reducing injuries. The position will also assist with developing BNBMC into a fully environmentally friendly and sustainable organization.
Job Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for implementing and monitoring safety management programs and initiatives for New Bridge Medical Center facilities across a wide geographic area.
Administer the day-to-day operations of an effective Respirator Program including:
N95 fit testing program strictly in accordance with CFR 1910.134 including ensuring all employees complete the required Respirator On-line training program.
Communicate to all managers those specific employees who need fit testing and those who do not. Maintain a formal list of all employees who have or require to be fit tested. Conduct qualitative fit testing.
Load all Medical clearances into the employee’s training records.
Perform both Quantitative and Quantitative fit testing where required.
Effectively communicate with Human Resources to fit test new hires before their first day of orientation or as soon as possible.
Lead an effective ergonomic program including:
Develop an embedded train the trainer program
Perform training to staff of proper patient transfer/repositioning
Maintain inventories of ergonomic equipment
Perform routine ergonomic evaluations of employees in all various positions, develop reports with recommendations for manager’s review/approval.
Research and recommend for BNBMC approved related equipment
Schedule and facilitate ergonomic safe patient handling meetings
Track/trend ergonomic safety injuries and report out to management including EOC meetings
Lead BNBMC into becoming a leader of sustainability including:
Completing annual sustainability applications to NJDEP and various organizations for various applications to become members and receive sustainability awards.
Implement specific tasks with various departments to develop specific budgets and purchase of equipment
Develop and implement sustainability goals, training, and communications throughout the organization including organizing team “Champions” in departments for recycling initiatives.
Work with inspectors from various environmental agencies (e.g.: COUNTY, DOH, EPA, DOT, OSHA, CMS, and The Joint Commission)
Conduct Investigations regarding all employee injury incidents, analyzes and makes recommendations for corrective action and keep all records current.
Conduct inspections and maintain an inventory of ergonomic equipment for employees to “trial” (i.e. ergonomic chairs, head phones, etc. )
Assists Safety/Security Director when needed. Required to respond to fires and emergencies and carry cellphone and be on call 24hrs for emergencies.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital service lines and departments
Participate in other working groups and committees
Maintain relevant documentation including up-to-date plans as well as meeting agendas, rosters, and minutes from meetings to always ensure accreditation survey readiness
