Qualifications:

  • HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
  • Associate membership of a recognised safety institution.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 12 years' experience in operational safety, with a preference for experience in infrastructure or construction projects in the Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical industries.
  • A thorough understanding of various safety regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in PC applications, including MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other relevant software.
  • Experience working in the Arabian Gulf is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Safety Officer, you will be accountable for ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and procedures across the project lifecycle. Your role will involve:

1. Safety Oversight:

  • Provide technical expertise to ensure adherence to health and safety standards during project stages, from design to execution.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety systems, life safety systems, and all related safety procedures across various contractor teams.
  • Oversee fire risk assessments, safety reviews, emergency response plans, and security systems.

2. Site Inspections and Risk Reduction:

  • Monitor activities at the project site daily, ensuring alignment with approved safety documents (e.g., risk assessments, method statements, and Permit to Work).
  • Proactively identify potential risks and collaborate with relevant teams to implement risk reduction measures throughout construction phases.

3. Document Review and Compliance:

  • Review contractor-submitted documents such as method statements, JSAs, and safety certifications to ensure full compliance.
  • Provide support in reviewing contractor Safety Officers' qualifications to ensure their readiness and competency before mobilising to the site.

4. Project HSE Monitoring and Risk Management:

  • Actively participate in the monitoring of HSE performance to ensure safety objectives, policies, and regulations are being met.
  • Maintain and monitor the HSE risk register throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring all risks are accurately recorded and addressed.

5. Incident Management:

  • Investigate incidents and accidents, ensuring corrective actions are implemented in line with corporate incident management procedures.
  • Conduct site safety meetings and promote HSE awareness among project teams and contractors.

6. Safety Audits:

  • Perform safety audits across the project, advising on corrective actions where necessary and ensuring their implementation.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify, mitigate, and monitor safety risks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear safety guidance to both contractors and project staff.
  • A commitment to upholding safety standards and improving HSE performance across the project.
