About the Role:
Seeking a highly motivated scientist in the field of chemical conjugation to join our chemical development group within CMC. In this vital role, the scientist will work at the interface of synthetic chemistry and chemical biology and apply their chemical synthesis skills in process development and optimization for new hybrid therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities. The successful candidate will work on the process development of peptide synthesis as well as large molecule therapeutics including antibody/Fc peptide/oligonucleotide conjugates for various therapeutic areas. The candidate will be responsible for development and management of manufacturing and purification processes and will collaborate with internal CMC groups and external CDMOs to ensure quality and on-time delivery of APIs. Provides project management support for CMC programs or Chemical Development projects, may lead work streams or projects within Chemical Development. Your expertise on process development on both upstream and downstream will enable you to have significant impact on Neurocrine’s projects.
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
Design and execute laboratory experiments to optimize and characterize conjugation chemistries and downstream purification processes for peptide-based bioconjugates.
Development and optimization of conjugation protocols utilizing novel chemistries and technologies.
Preferably, experienced with conjugation to different modalities (Antibody, Protein, Peptide, Oligonucleotide, Small molecules).
Process development on both upstream and downstream processes, lead projects and teams towards agreed upon goals, ultimately working towards GMP manufacturing of development candidates.
Aid in lab setup, instrument purchase, installation, and ongoing lab operations.
Effective communication of scientific rationale, results and interpretation at project, team, and departmental meetings, contributing to strategic discussions.
Active management of CDMO for non-GMP/GMP drug substance manufacturing.
May provide input for portion(s) of CMC regulatory documentation and supporting work.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful technology transfer from the laboratory to manufacturing.
Requirements:
BS/BA degree in Chemistry and 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/process development field, including API manufacturing experience, OR
MS/MA degree in Chemistry and 3+ years of similar experience, OR
PhD in Chemistry and some relevant industry experience; may include postdoc experience.
Experienced in bioconjugation chemistry and downstream purification processes, with hands-on experience in the and characterization of bioconjugates.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
Proficient in all aspects of modern peptide synthesis, purification and analysis; capable of immediate independent laboratory work on solid- and solution-phase chemistry.
Strong understanding of peptide structure and associated biophysical techniques to assess peptide structure, stability and behavior in solution.
Experience in protein-peptide bioconjugation and purification a plus.
Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and presentation skills are essential.
Demonstration of cross-functional understanding related to drug development.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability working with/recommending a variety of laboratory equipment/tools.
Strong laboratory and productivity skills and drug substance manufacturing experience.
Good understanding of cGMP requirements in drug substance.
Sees broader picture, impact on multiple programs, teams and/or departments.
Ability to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs, with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
Neurocrine Biosciences is an EEO/AA//Vets employer.
