Senior Biologist

LSA is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Biologist to assist our Irvine office with projects, primarily in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Flexible workplace schedules may be arranged and allow for potential hybrid in-office/remote opportunities, subject to supervisor discretion. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of progressive and successful experience in the following areas:

  • Experience performing biological surveys and technical report writing, including impact assessments of proposed projects on local wildlife species and plant communities, sensitive/listed species, and their habitats (e.g., California gnatcatcher, burrowing owl, MSHCP/HCP/NCCP, special status species), and familiarity with all applicable State and federal regulations pertaining to biological resources (e.g., Section 404, 401, and 1602).
  • Expertise in conducting wetlands delineations, resource agency permitting, mitigation plan development, MSHCP/HCP/NCCP documents and biological sections for CEQA and NEPA documents. Restoration planning and/or preparation of SEA biological reports is a plus.
  • Experience with conducting meetings with clients and regulatory agencies, scoping projects for the appropriate level of services and budgets as needed, and business development. The appropriate candidate will be expected to oversee existing projects and project teams.
  • Supervisory experience, managing schedules, coordinating tasks with staff, conducting quality control, and providing technical direction and training to junior staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Southern California flora and fauna, including at least 5 years working in Orange or Los Angeles Counties.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Use of a personal vehicle is required. Candidates applying for this position must have a clean driving record and valid driver’s license, which will be verified.

Qualified Candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • Biological resource assessments (CEQA/NEPA)
  • Botanical surveys
  • Wildlife species surveys
  • Wetland delineations, jurisdictional determinations, CRAM assessments
  • Solution-oriented approach to client needs
  • Regulatory permitting
  • Regulatory compliance oversight and monitoring
  • Restoration planning, habitat management, mitigation monitoring
  • GIS data collection

Education
The successful candidate must possess:

  • BS/BA from an accredited college or university in biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related discipline and at least 10+ years of relevant consulting experience.

Strong emphasis is placed on previous technical experience and quality of work. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $71,000 to $154,000 per year. The compensation offer will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
