Senior Biomedical Scientist
Job Description
Working hours are 9am-5pm, 5 days per week to include Saturdays.
Please note, you must be HCPC registered to be considered for this role.
This post is designed for a HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist to work as part of a laboratory team within Blood Sciences. This role will include utilising laboratory techniques to provide a high level of diagnostic service, supervising less experienced staff and reporting key metrics to Lead BMS.
- Support the leads with UKAS assessments and maintenance of records.
- Support Lead BMSs in the day-to-day operation of the department to ensure maintenance of high quality process workflow.
- Play a key role in managing departmental workflow to ensure continuity of service.
- Assist the Operations Manager to maintain quality accurate and up to date management records on the Q-Pulse quality management system.
- Provide support at senior level to all Blood sciences sections, mainly provide analytical advice and information on interpretation of a complex chemistry/haematology results and blood film readings.
- To support staff in the operation of highly specialised equipment helping with maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Implementation, monitoring, and review of IQC performances of all analytes/tests within the department.
- Manage staff rotas
- Prioritise workload and direct staff according to service needs and staff resources.
- Maintain the integrity of the internal quality control programmes, updating the electronic systems as required to ensure they remain effective monitors of analysis accuracy, precision, and instrument functionality.
- To be aware and raise any clinical risk within the laboratory and support a high-quality clinical service for patients.
Qualifications
- Active CPD portfolio
- Minimum of 5 years experience in one or more of the Service specialties (Biochemistry and/or Haematology).
- Experience of working as part of a large team in a busy environment
- Experience of managing teams.
- Has in depth knowledge and understanding of Blood sciences disciplines mainly (Biochemistry and Haematology including Blood Film)
- Experience of change control Experience of Q pulse, uploading and reviewing documentation.
- Is able to follow up adverse incidents through constructive root cause analysis
- Able to present and discuss key metric data to senior managers as and when required
- Ability to act on own initiative
- Ability to supervise a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong motivational skills
