The project: Working in the Mace transportation business unit as a senior commercial manager, you will be responsible for the management of commercial aspects of transportation across major rail, ports and highways projects and programmes .Your role will include the delivery of projects providing pre-award, procurement and post-award services to our esteemed client base, continuously driving best-value and high standards throughout the supply chain.As a senior commercial manager within Mace, you will provide a provide a "cradle to grave" commercial function for all work packages making up the commission.Our values shape the way we consult and define the people we want to join us on our journey, they are:Safety first - Going home safe and well: You will be a leading advocate of Mace's value of safety first, and be accountable for leading and maintaining exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability and project compliance standards. Client focus - Deliver on our promise: You will manage the delivery of key assignments and defined business areas, providing strategic direction and monitoring delivery aligned with overall vision and objectives. You will be accountable for the preparation of contract documents, warranties, bonds and licenses to achieve formal execution by appropriate parties. You will manage costing associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities and client charges, and present these to clients. Supporting associate/project directors with cost management and contract performance reports. Managing procurement of projects or assisting procurement, including preparing contract and tender documentation. Preparing and managing contract documentation and negotiating with contractors. Presenting cost reports, including monthly performance reviews Advising the project manager on the administration of NEC contracts. Assisting the project manager across all functions & project delivery. Acting under delegated authority from the project manager Assessing AFP’s & CEs to advise the project manager on amounts due under contract Ensuring that interim & final assessments are accurate, robust and in accordance with terms Working with contractors to achieve agreed final assessments where possible. Being a key interface with client, stakeholders and other consultants at all project stages. Handling of contractual frameworks Identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates, and products. Identifying and acting upon ways to improve internal systems and processes. You will manage cost consultants to identify and execute opportunities that improve cost management procedures, templates and products to enhance services provided to stakeholders. You’ll need to have: A degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent). Detailed knowledge in most forms of contracts. Sound knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction. Proficient knowledge and expertise in specific sector/ market of project/role. Relevant technical qualification/certification for project portfolio/s. Knowledge of contractual frameworks relating to construction. Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on contract administration and contract management. Capex V Opex cost analysis/advice. Desirable Ability to be effective communicator with all stakeholders. Ability to seek opportunities for implementing improved working practices. Manages relevant stakeholders for project/s. Develops effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Good interpersonal skills to prepare reports, negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders. Problem solving and analytical skills for resolving cost and contract administration and procurement issues within consult. Uses advanced communication skills to collaborate with others to guide others to achieve project key performance. Experience of managing people. Experience of risk management. Sharing key information and learning generated with colleagues. Understands personal strengths and weaknesses, seeks learning and support where appropriate. Identifying and participating in new initiatives that add value that led to service improvement e.g. BIM champions and operates within an inclusivity environment. You’ll also have: Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent). Professional membership or working towards i.e. MRICS/RICS, or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development. Experience in business development. Developed commercial and financial acumen. Knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction. Experience leading parts of projects within large, diverse teams. Developing experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders. Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
