Senior Controls Engineer – On-Site in Addison, TX

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Controls Engineer to lead automation solutions in PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS/DeltaV platforms. This role requires expertise in Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Modicon systems, along with PLC-5 to ControlLogix conversions and networking knowledge (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
This hands-on project engineering role involves leading automation projects, collaborating with clients, managing technical teams, and optimizing industrial processes across industries such as Semiconductor, Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food & Beverage, Water Treatment, and General Manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience, demonstrated client interaction skills, and the ability to travel up to 25% (mostly local to Dallas).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead automation system design and implementation for industrial processes and machinery.
- Develop and program control systems using PLC, DCS/DeltaV, HMI/SCADA platforms.
- Handle Emerson DeltaV systems and PLC-5 to ControlLogix conversions for system upgrades.
- Perform industrial networking design and implementation using Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and other protocols.
- Develop technical documentation, including control system architecture, schematics, and process visualizations.
- Collaborate directly with clients to gather requirements, troubleshoot, and provide innovative solutions.
- Lead projects as a Project Manager (PM) while maintaining hands-on engineering involvement.
- Manage instrumentation, batch/recipes, OEE, MES, and ERP systems to ensure seamless industrial automation.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, driving technical excellence across project teams.
- Travel up to 25% (mostly within the Dallas area) for client site visits and system commissioning.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in control system design, automation, and project leadership.
- Experience with one or more industries: Semiconductor, Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food & Beverage, Water Treatment, General Manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge of Emerson DeltaV platforms, with at least 2-3 years of recent DeltaV experience.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, including PLC-5 to ControlLogix conversions.
- Hands-on experience with PLC hardware/software such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Modicon.
- Expertise in HMI/SCADA platforms, including Rockwell FactoryTalk, Plant Pax, Aveva System Platform, Edge, Ignition, GE iFIX, Siemens Winn CC, TI Portal.
- Understanding of DCS platforms, including Emerson DeltaV or similar.
- Experience with batch/recipes, OEE, MES, ERP systems.
- Proficiency in designing and implementing instrumentation systems.
- Ability to lead client interactions, provide technical expertise, and manage engineering projects.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience with AutoCAD for control panel and electrical schematic design.
- PMP certification for enhanced project management expertise.
- Background in semiconductor or life sciences industries.
- Experience designing electrical schematics and control panels including power distribution (480VAC, NEC compliance).
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Standard office and industrial environments with on-site visits as needed.
- Ability to mount/dismount equipment, lift objects, and perform hands-on technical tasks.
- Frequent use of personal computer, industrial control systems, and engineering software.
