KBR, in support of the Volpe Transportation Systems Center, has an immediate requirement for a Senior Microsoft SQL Server Database Developer. The qualified candidate will be a key contributor in developing applications for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to support the work of their Aviation Safety Inspectors. The position will include the development of complex database stored procedures and functions, along with optimization for the handling of a large amount and variety of FAA’s aviation safety related data. This project presents several exciting technical challenges including data analytics and application scaling.  The successful candidate is one who thrives in a collaborative environment and who, as a key player on our team, will:

  • Work closely with the database architects, business analysts and .NET development staff to design and develop database objects to support the application

Responsibilities

  • Participates in client/project meeting(s) for highly complex project definition, needs assessment and design review.
  • Evaluates the needs and requirements of the users and provides technical expertise in the development of technical, structural, and organizational specifications. Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage Organization.
  • Designs, develops, and integrates highly complex database systems for internal and external users/clients.
  • Develops complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms.
  • Performs complex analyses and reviews applications being released into production. Develops and oversees the implementation of test application code in client server environments to ensure that software conforms to build management practices.
  • Collaborate with the application development team and the release management team to support application deployment.
  • Collaborate with other members of database team to meet project goals and deliver quality solutions, often working on several tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Collaborate with the release management team to automate database deployments.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, work with help desk and development teams to debug and provide solutions.
  • Incorporate and/or migrate data from various and diverse external data sources to be used by the system.
  • Design, develop and manage data interfaces with other database systems according to project requirements.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience of working with relational databases; 5+ years with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • 5+ years of experience maintaining large mission critical enterprise databases.
  • 5+ years of experience of working with SQL; 5+ years of T-SQL developing Stored procedures, Views, Triggers, UDF (User defined Functions), constraints, etc.
  • Experience with database optimization using profilers, query analyzers and query plans.
  • Experience with ETL tools and technologies, especially SSIS.
  • Experience of working in a .NET environment using Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server (TFS) and Git
  • Experience using application life cycle management tools such as Jira.
  • Experience developing applications for the cloud.
  • Ability to analyze large enterprise database environments and recommend emerging technologies to optimize operations.
  • Good team player with excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodology.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or software engineering.
  • Microsoft Certifications would be nice to have.
