Senior Design Engineer

Our client is a successful and well-established manufacturer. They are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join their team.

• Salary depending on experience (TBC).

• Hours of work: Monday – Thursday, 8.00am – 4.30pm, and Friday 8.00am – 3.30pm.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the production of detailed design information on a range of product types, as part of their second line engineering process. You will form a key member of the design team provide support to both pre and post-sales functions, and coordinating the workload of other Design Engineers. You will be central to the R&D activities related to air handling products/solutions.

You will take sales estimation proposals and develop them into mature solutions ready to be handed over to the projects team.

The design information will require a thorough review of scope of works, specification compliance and will entail the production of detailed general arrangement and fabrication drawings alongside the production of bill of materials.

Qualifications / Experience Required:

• Experience in the design of air handling units

• Experience of fault finding, diagnosing issues with air handling units

• Strong understanding of production and assembly processes within a fabrication environment

• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

• Flexible approach to working hours with the overall focus of delivering projects on and on budget

• Strong two-way communication skills and approachable

• Strong client relationship skills

• Working to ISO9001 quality procedures and CDM regulations

• Strong commercial awareness

• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills plus high quality standards of written work and drawings

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Taking ownership in developing designs to an agreed specification, including the key measures of meeting deadlines, meeting design criteria, liaising with suppliers.

• Developing designs for projects from initial enquiry, producing costings and producing BOMs (Bill of Materials). Final design sign off of above information required prior to handover to the project team.

• Co-ordinate the daily workload of the design team and multiproduct enquiries.

• Lead and/or be directly involved in [potentially multiple] R&D projects related to Air Handling equipment and solutions, including but not limited to cost engineering, core functionality development, evolutionary upgrades, framing system improvements, and certification programmes e.g. Eurovent certification.

• Working as part of a multi discipline engineering team consisting of ventilation, building services, refrigeration, acoustic and control engineers to develop complex product solutions.

• Drive process management efficiencies and improvements.

• Develop and improve handover procedures to post order engineering teams.

• Working on varied types of drawings from single line design concepts to intricate detailed manufacturing drawings.

• Liaising with the drawing department to produce accurate working drawings for production.

• Liaising with the drawing department to produce sales proposal drawings.

• Provide technical advice to assist with projects and products, including (but not limited to) functionality, performance, efficiency, lifespan, quality, and cost.

• Provide technical support to the pre-sales team, including site visits and client meetings.

• Mentoring and developing the design team with an emphasis on personal development, positivity, and employee engagement.

• Overseeing the day-to-day work completed by the team including specifications, designs and BOMs.

• Representing the team providing updates in project progress, new technologies, new product development in addition to technical and risk management implications

• Keeping drawing schedules up to date for issued and received drawings.

• Managing risk effectively, collaborating with all departments and adapting to situations.

• Encouraging and supporting the company’s continuous improvement ethos by carrying out technical design reviews, testing regimes, and analysis of new and existing products to improve efficiency and quality.

• Investigating potential product development opportunities and lead the prototyping and testing of new products.

• Maximising value engineering opportunities.

• Keeping up to date with new technology, current and forthcoming legislative obligations, and providing a clear roadmap for new opportunities within the company.

• Promoting and co-ordinating technical knowledge within the company, including technical knowledge sharing and harvesting.

• Presenting to other teams and providing updates on new products to increase the knowledge base of peers, including external CPDs.

• Dealing with and managing customer technical requests in a professional manner.

• Maintaining a high level of quality in accordance with Company policies.

• Providing technical support and training to internal and external customers.

• Managing workload proactively to achieve objectives and ensure activity schedules are kept regularly up to date.

• Managing the development and integration of MP Air Pro Software, ensuring the software and database is kept up to date with the latest information.

• Any other ad hoc duties that may be required from time to time for the smooth running of the business.

This role would suit someone with experience of AHU / HVAC / Air Conditioning design, with previous job titles such as Product Design Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer / Electrical Design Engineer / AutoCAD Technician / Autodesk Technician / CAD Engineer / CAD Draughtsman / Draughtsperson / Draughts Person / CAD Technician / Design Engineer / Autodesk Technician / Senior CAD Designer / other similar senior CAD based Engineering role
