Senior Electrical Engineer - HV substations
Location: Hybrid working, Dublin office.

My client is a leading engineering company with a international track record of delivering electricity transmission, offshore wind and grid connection projects. They work on many innovative projects using the latest HV technology and equipment.
To help facilitate their rapid growth, they are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer, with experience designing HV substation layouts or protection and control schemes for Irish electricity transmission assets. In this role, you will work with the product engineering, sales and EPC project management teams to develop substation or protection and control solutions that will improve the transmission grid in Ireland.
This is an exciting role where you will have the opportunity to work with the latest technology applications, get exposure to offshore transmission or HVDC projects and work in an a dynamic, supportive and entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Depending on your prior experience, oversee the design of innovative protection and control schemes for substations up to 400kV. This will include LV design for auxiliary power supplies, including AC/DC and uninterruptible power systems. Or take responsibility for primary layout and technical specifications of equipment design on substations and associated works.
- Work with design consultancies to produce detailed designs and review their work prior to client submissions.
- Attend technical meetings with the client to gain design approval or make suggestions to improve substation designs.
- Integrate safety considerations into all aspects of design work
- Maintain design integrity across diverse project portfolios
- Produce relevant design documents, specifications for submission to tenders, ensuring.
- Contribute to the production of risk assessments and compliance with HSE legislation.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) with clients.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines and international colleagues to produce the designs of HV substations.
Required Qualifications:
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering
- Previous experience designing primary plant layout or protection and control schemes for HV substations in Ireland.
- Understanding of Irish grid codes and emerging technologies in the sector
- Experience working with major Irish electrical infrastructure projects, either as a contractor or directly with the TSO.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Commercial mindset with the ability to work in a tendering / sales team.
- Willingness to speak directly to customers to understand needs and present solutions.
