We are looking for a Senior Engineer – Power Transformers, who will join a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
The role will include the execution of various engineering tasks as necessary, however, primarily, as a Power Transformer Engineer you will be responsible for: -
- The review and approval of the vendor-submitted Power Transformer designs and installation proposals, associated with ENOWA DSO projects, these being up to and including 33kV.
- Specialist distribution engineering / design services relating to the application of Power Transformers to the network of ENOWA DSO.
- The development of specifications for Power Transformers, components, associated equipment, installation, and testing standards.
- Support the development of the digital twin for Power Transformers for real-time monitoring.
- Supporting, guiding, and influencing other branches of NEOM to ensure effective engineering, design and safety outcomes are realized through sound asset management practices.
- Identification of opportunities for improvements in specifications, standards and practices, applying emerging technologies, to drive improvements in safety, system performance and costs.
- Define, witness and review Power Transformer testing and commissioning, ensuring compliance.
- Providing electrical engineering support to projects for the development of the ENOWA distribution grid, regarding switchgear, reactive plant, substation design, utility operational practices, and networks.
- Oversee and/or provide expert direction on power transformer lifecycle management
- Lead emergency response for transformer failures and grid disturbances.
- The role will support the Senior Manager for Engineering and is based in NEOM Base Camp (North-West Saudi-Arabia).
REQUIREMENTS SUMMARY
The Ideal candidate will demonstrate direct experience and/or understanding of the following: -
- Power Transformer specification, design and/or design review, along with deployment and installation expertise, with a proven track record in the application to surface, underground and embedded substation environments, up to and including 33kV.
- Oil-Immersed and Dry-type Power Transformers, the former including ester liquids.
- Preparation of technical specifications, engineering Standards, and written reports.
- Principles of transformer design and their practical implications
- Different type of insulating oil being used in oil filled transformers and have knowledge of their properties.
- Insulated bushing technologies and applications
- Tap-changing technologies and methods.
- Insulation materials and classes of Power Transformers
- Transformer short-circuit and mechanical protection requirements.
- Emerging technologies in design and installation of Power Transformers.
- Detailed understanding of the requirements for testing, commissioning, operating, designing substations and the included electrical plant.
- Condition monitoring and condition assessment of electrical plant.
- Renewable energy systems and their integration into a distribution network.
- Working in teams and working flexibly across a broad range of projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant IEC standards and industry guidelines.
The candidate shall have previous experience within either a DNO/DSO, consulting engineering, design company. Extensive relevant experience with a transformer manufacturer may be considered.
ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES
The Senior Engineer – Power Transformers responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Design and Commissioning
- The application of Power Transformers and knowledge associated with manufacturing, installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and replacement.
- Develop and manage specifications for use by all parties involved with designing and constructing of the NEOM distribution network and supporting delivery of related projects.
- Specification of and attendance at type testing and Factory Acceptance tests.
- Research, innovation, and developing cost & risk-based engineering recommendations.
- Development of Power Transformer installation and construction standards, applying innovative solutions for efficiency and lowest whole of life cost, together with condition monitoring techniques.
- Contribute to NEOM’s energy efficiency strategy, 100% renewable grid and R&D projects.
- Lead or support technical evaluation of tenders for power transformers and other substation plant
- Contribute to the delivery of the company’s engineering risk management plan.
- Have knowledge of current and emerging Power Transformer technologies and their implementation within a DSO. Develop subject matter expertise of design and construction requirements.
- Drive high level of safety performance in design and construction documents for the DSO network.
- Provide site support for installation, testing and commissioning.
- Lead post-fault investigations, return-to-service decisions and have input into asset management decisions, including maintenance, refurbishment, replacement, and spares management.
Project Management
- Support ENOWA’s projects with scoping, evaluations, design reviews, implementation of substations.
- Coordinate with consultants in preparation of substation installations related to Power Transformers.
- Monitor industry standards and technological advances; apply these where relevant and beneficial.
- Identify and progress suggestions and opportunities for process improvements which will enhance service delivery, seeking efficiencies and improvement at all times.
- Manage the preparation of effective monthly reports to ensure a clear overview of progress against objectives and budget.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors for timely delivery and resolution of engineering issues.
Standards and Guidance
- Lead and/or contribute to development of specifications, standards and DSO design documentation.
- Ensure transformer installations satisfy standards requirements, including safety regulations.
Partnership
- Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Ensure effective working relationships and communications with other internal operational teams
- Ensure that strong relationships are built between the team and our customers, in order that there is a clear understanding of their needs and any concerns which are to be addressed timeously.
